Octopus have posted the new formula on their website, I changed the formula on my Excel sheet to see what the difference would be for tomorrow, 15.1 vs 17.2
Yes the "fixed" terminology is something to appease OFGEM, I understand. Its not actually a "fix" in the traditional sense, as the price changes 365 times a year for electric and approx 200 times a year for gas.
Nice, you're a star!
I hope it stays as it is, it was part of the draw for that particular tariff, looking forward to storms coming through so we get super cheap electric 😎

No it will still work the same. The upshot is that electric will cost around 2.1p more per unit than now and gas 0.4p, due to the formula changing.
That and the standing charge going up.
Ah, so still the changing prices each day?
How did you find out? I found diddly squat online!

Just had this email from Octopus about the Tracker tariff changing.
Quote- In December 2023, we updated Tracker's daily price formula and standing charge for new customers. We held this change off for existing customers, keeping your prices lower for longer, but from 15th February, we'll need to update your prices too.
- You don't need to do anything: we'll move you automatically to the new version of Tracker.
- Tracker remains one of the best-value tariffs on the market - in December and January, the updated rates have typically been nearly 40% cheaper than Flexible Octopus
- Because of how Ofgem's price cap works, Tracker is becoming a 'fixed term' tariff. Your unit prices still change daily but your unit price formula and standing charge will be fixed for 12 months.
Bit of it is explained on their website; https://octopus.energy/tracker-faqs/
Hopefully the prices don't go up too much.
I can't really work out how it's changing... from reading it, it looks like it'll be a fixed unit cost, rather than variable like it is now?

I had a thought about a solution to all this the other day while watching a BBC news story on Youtube; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIb78r6lEVc&t=124s
It came to me at the 2 minute mark of the video, when it showed a huge crowd seemingly celebrating this attack.Instead of going small, fending off little speedboats attacking ships... why not wait until the terrorists have a gathering to celebrate, and then just carpet bomb the entire area?
The only people in attendance will be current or future terrorist group members, so win-win... less money spent on ships, missiles, sending troops in.

The way forward is to bring back National Service. Then after the period of Nation Service has ended the individual has the opportunity to stay in the military assuming they are suitable for the career. National Service would also help in the event if conscription was ever required because those who had done National Service would already have had some military training
Works well in Scandinavian countries, when I visited Sweden years ago I met up with friends there who had participated and nobody had a bad thing to say.
Life skills, training, they can stay in or leave at the end.

Anyone want to bet the same thing happens in Scientology?

It's still fairly entertaining, although I'm sure the gladiators themselves are going easy on the contestants versus the 90s version

Yes it's as basic as you get, it won't even include paid boosters if those are needed, so consider if that's a factor before taking the plunge.
She doesn't need anything fancy, just a broadband connection that isn't snail paced.
The BT one we've seen is a standard fibre connection estimated at 36Mbps and 700 landline minutes a month, far more than she needs, but better to have too much than not enough 👍

I don't think you get 900mbs Full Fibre on it, for instance, but I doubt your m-i-l is bothered about that?
Not at all, she only seems to use it to search for stuff online and then ask us to buy it for her 😂

I don't think we are discussing HMG here, rather SCC?
Still counts as local government though right? 🤔

It's coming up to renewal date for the mother in laws Internet and phone line and I've dredged up from my memory a story about these things called Social Tariffs, done some searching and it seems like she would be eligible, but never having any experience with them myself I'm wondering if someone on here has?
Unbelievably it looks like the best deal for her would be from BT 😮
Is it easy to sign up?
Are there any downsides?
Is it just the same as a regular contract, just cheaper and more basic?

Noooooo, noooo, surely the government wouldn't lie to us?? I simply refuse to believe this!
Yeah right 😂

Will he be talking about ways to grow more concrete? 🤣

No, there is no fire escape door, this is the only door.
That sounds extremely dodgy! 😮

If it's anything like our block, we have un-alarmed fire exits that you can use to exit if the door has gone haywire.

Don't you still have the original email from when you placed the order?
The order number will be in that one.
