  1. Whitepetal If you have links at Sheffield University offer a language exchange. If you don't contact them via http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/seas/contact.html as they teach Chinese and there must be people studying Chinese there who'd be grateful for help in exchange for helping you with your English.
  2. Not right there, shortcrust. Remember that killing in Bristol just before Xmas when all the media decided the landlord had done it just because the police spoke to him (and he looked a bit eccentric)? Then the police charged a neighbour instead and the landlord is now consulting solicitors. In this police case the coppers will always look after their own. For some reason.
  3. I saw 2 police horses on a Saturday in Broomhall nearly 3 years ago. At first I thought United must be at home and then I realised it was June. Sadly such enforcement is deemed necessary in areas where quite a few scrubbers live. The police need to have high visibility where the usual suspects hang out as the latter can't be trusted to be intelligent enough to behave.
  4. What's the relevance of when they clock off? By asking that question you're implying you'll park anywhere if you know you won't get a ticket. There are plenty of car parks in town which are free after 8.30pm and they're never full as most people use public transport or taxis so they can drink. If someone came on here and asked what time the coppers knock off as they fancy murdering someone tonight what would you say? Midnight or murder's wrong? The same applies to your illegal parking.
  5. Then print it off, get it the size you'd like it on a t-shirt and take it to shops that print t-shirts. Ask them if they can get the image on a t-shirt and get a price quote. It's not difficult. That's what I did for 2 t-shirts. But one warning - don't get a low quality t-shirt as the colour is born to run. Sorry.
  6. Why don't you have one made up? Just take an image of the LP sleeve and take it into a t-shirt printing shop. You'll then be able to choose which colour t-shirt you want. I've used a shop at the bottom of London Road and taken in photocopied images which they've used to make me a couple of t-shirts. They charge about £15 per t-shirt and turn it round in about a week or less. That way you can have exactly the image you want. The print quality has been really good and they're very professional.
  7. It'll give miserable sods like you summat to moan about. I've been on one of these tram/train thingies in Karlsruhe in Germany. The only problem with this porposal is the short distance it's going to cover. The original proposal was to put them on the Huddersfield via Barnsley line. The authorities really need to extend the tram. I'd prefer two new branches, one up to Crookes via Broomhill and the RHS and the other to Norton or beyond via Abbeydale Road and Woodseats.
  8. The Canaries are best in winter because they're the cheapest option for a warm holiday at that time of year. The best holiday I had in recent years was Lisbon. There's a coastline just outside the city with loads of touristy resorts. A trainline runs from Lisbon and connects them all up. Lisbon is a great city with loads of life on the streets. The only disappointment was the tourist office as they were useless at booking anything so book a package if you go. If you're into cities stay in Lisbon and visit the resorts. If you're into beaches stay in a resort and visit Lisbon. My second choice would be the French Basque Country - Bayonne, Biarritz, etc - another mix of beaches and urban life.
  9. I take it you're a Lib-Dem scaring people into not voting Labour. I'd give up now. Labour will win the council back thanks to the Lib-Dems' antics in government. Personally I don't vote Labour and don't think who runs the council will make much difference given the level of cuts. But the Lib-Dems will lose the council and others in working class areas. That's the way it goes when you ally yourselves to the Tories.
  10. Try the Showroom opposite the train station. Their website is http://www.showroomworkstation.org.uk and they should have some info re funding. However all public funding other than for cruise missiles is being cut at the moment.
  11. I think companies should be taxed to pay for basic infrastructure in this country and not be allowed to get out of their responsibility by registering abroad. Your arguments against that is that because you're greedy Boots should be greedy too. Great argument. We can all use someone else's bad traits to justify our own. Economic greed got us into the present mess. Nothing to do with students or unions. The fact that you have to label someone a student or whatever just means you're targetting the person - who you don't even know - rather than deal with the issue. The issue is that loads of cuts are going to be made which needn't be made if companies were taxed more. That's police, health, armed forces, libraries, schools, etc put second after corporate excess.
  12. I do work and pay tax but you're comparing an individual to a company. What you're saying is that a British company should pay less tax in Britain, income that the government could spend on basic infrastructure. Companies have public reputations to keep up whereas individuals don't so companies like Boots can be targetted and shoppers can choose not to use them. Multiply that a few times across the country over time and they can suffer financially. What I'm saying is the tax Boots isn't paying can be put to some good in this country. So why is that worse than Boots keeping it and spending it on shareholders, corporate excess or whatever?
  13. So all the people who think Boots should pay less tax can all put their hands in their pockets to make up the difference. Off you go. Funny how all the patriotic right-wingers are quite happy for a British company to register in Switzerland so it can pay less tax in this country.
  14. Hopefully you can shut the shop down for the day and cause Boots to lose some income. Ignore the Milton Friedman-soundalike above. He's probably got shares in Boots. It's not just the laws that need changing. Just because the laws are in place doesn't mean Boots have to rip off the British taxpayer. Let's cause them £87 million worth of lost business.
  15. I saw it too and as it whizzed past it changed shape. One moment it was bird-shaped and then as it disappeared it was a polygon.
