  1. marvelous, the best year of my life, 1976, 15 years old, the last six weeks holidays I would ever have, spent lazing around the parks of Sheffield, mainly Hillsborough and Endcliffe, wondering if it would ever rain again, just waking up every morning to the sun blazing through the window, radio 1 on my trannie listening to Tony Blackburn, Dave Lee Travis, Noel Edmunds, I guess there have been hotter summers since, but this was special for me cause I was young and carefree, if only you could turn back time.
  2. the best documemtary ever made was 'seven up' by granada tv, it follows a group of kids growing up, first shown in 1964 when they were 7 and updated every seven years to show how their lives have panned out. I have watched every one and find them compelling viewing. I think the last one was 2 years ago, they are about 49 now so the next one will be in about 5 years when they are 54, cant wait for that. Anyone else out there who has been following these fantastic documentaries? what are your thoughts.
  3. I used to go this cinema in the late sixties early seventies, it may have been the capitol before it became the essoldo, it was on barnsley rd next to the caravan place just before the bus terminus.
  4. I used to go to the essoldo at sheffield lane top on saturday afternoons, my favourites were from the childrens film foundation, usually a gang of kids outdoing the baddies. I hated flash gordon, the b/w thirties version. The essoldo was a flea pit, torn seats, fag burns the fusty smell, it is now a carpet warehouse. I wonder if they kept the art deco statues that used to stand pride of place in the cinema.
  5. I would just like to say what an amazing job all the fire fighters and emergency services are doing at ulley resovouir. They deserve medals for what they have done today. Lets hope and pray the res dosent burst or this would be a major catastrophe for Sheffield and Rotherham, and just spare a thought for all those poor people of Catcliffe and Treeton who have again suffered terribly from these awful awful floods.
  6. I live 2 mins from ulley resovoir, lucklily in the opposite direction to where the water would go if it were [god forbid] to burst. I would just like to say what a fantastic and heroic job those fire fighters and emergency crews are doing to try and avert what would be a devastating catastrophe to the whole of Sheffield and Rotherham. Watching it on the news channels is very surreal, to think this happening on my doorstep. These men are heroes and deserve medals for what they are doing right now.Lets hope and pray the worst does not happen.
  7. I must admit I found seany very irritating until last night when he chucked charley in the pool, absolutely fantastic, classic, I'm sure will be shown time and time again [remember alex and the kc and the sunshine band, 'thats the way i like it' clip] just as rememberable. I thought that would have kept him in. It seems the public love conflift and bitching, makes for better tv I suppose.
  8. I must disagree with you ant, I have loved this week on bbbm with leigh francis, i didn't think anyone could replace russell but leigh has done a fantastic job, some classic moments.By the way anyone missing russell he is on jonathan ross tonight, should be worth watching. Any way looking forward to watching keith lemon on bbbm, Leigh Francis is a comic genious, FACT
  9. I think Tracey bares an uncanny resemblance to the late great Leonard Rossiter, anyone else agree?.
  10. All we need now is to get those awful twins out of there! Please God get those twins out of there. Please? Pretty please? I totally agree with you, I thought it was just me. I just cant see anyone nominating them though, Im afraid i think they will be there for a lot longer. The only person I can see nominating them is carole, i noticed her attitude changed towards them after nominations were announced last week. I think they are the most desperate for fame, the next cheeky twins maybe.God help us all.
  11. I must agree with most of your takes on the housemates, although i find gerry rather irritating. I cant wait for tonight when the guys go in, maybe this is where bb8 begins, I hope so, I must admit I'm getting a bit bored of hearing charley and nickys voices.
  12. fantastic nights in the daisy, saturday afternoons were brill too. It was frequented by all the freaky dressers of the day, I suppose it was just before or around the punk explosion 76/77, this is where all the normal folks went just to gawk at all the 'freaks' as we called them. The atmosphere in there was always buzzing, fantastic.
  13. Is it just me, am i the only one who thinks the twins have a massive game plan. They are 18 year olds acting like 8 year olds. It makes my blood boil to see them act the way they do and everyone else saying ahh arent they so sweet and innocent. Obviously if they keep on acting like that no one is going to nominate them for fear of upsetting the sweet little darlings. I am sure old Nicky will have them sussed before long and put the cat amongst the pigeons. I like Nicky she has a very good judge of character, I also like Tracey and whatever else people might say I actually like Charley, at least she says what she thinks even though she knows it could get her nominated, she dosent care.
  14. I am deffo going to go up to foxhill in the near future, I am dying to see the Back Edge and where the maisonettes used to be, I lived there from 63 to 71 and am looking forward to see how much it has changed, Will post back in the near future.
  15. 87 OMG she is fantastic for her age, I hope I am all together like that when I get to 87, although she hasnt had a story line for about 20 years she's still an amazing woman. I think I recall Bill Kenworthy one of the judges of Joseph playing her son Malcolm about 30 years ago. Heres to Betty Turpin long may she keep the hot pot going on Corrie.
