We all have our favourite singers, but who do you think was a good singer, i mean someone who could actually sing even if you don't listen to there music.
They must be Dead of course.
Mine is Karan Carpenter.
Who is yours.

Nina Simone (may she rest in peace - although I expect she's joined the rest of the Jazz fraternity in the other place!)

and
Nat King Cole

Nat King Cole was a top singer but Nina Simone, was she a singer from recent or yester year, I know her name but can't quite recall a face.

She was the original hard living Jazz Diva - went over the edge and came back again

Nina Simone (Windows Media) (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/clipserve/B00004RIMQ001001/0/002-3264629-7494455)

Freddie Mercury - one great frontman

My one is regret in life is that I never saw Queen play live in the flesh.

The live aid performance at Wembley Stadium is the tops.

You seem to have omitted the marvellous Walter Widdup from your list of great singers.Halifax-born this astounding tenor captivated the London music scene in the early days of the last century. His rendition of "Tom Bowling" has never been bettered.
Ask your favourite radio DJ to include it in his requests and dedications.

Beth Gibbons from Portishead.
She's very much alive and kicking but has such a wonderful voice I'll do a very ironic killing to get her on the list.

I forgot about Phil Lynott - Thin Lizzy

Could be a real supergroup jamming session as we speak in both heaven and hell, mind you it would probably be in hell with the stuff that this lot got up to.

No, when was it on?

Dream Brother by David Browne is a good book, it's about the lives of Tim and Jeff Buckley.

indeed, can't think of many top dead singers that made it past the pearly gates of judeo-christianity.

Cliff Richard maybe. Oh wait he's not dead yet (although that can easily be arranged)

But in hell, quite a different story.

I vote Frank Zappa on lead guitar, maybe Nina Simone on backing vocals.

Keith Moon on Drums
Lemmy on Bass (on no he's not dead either)

Keith Whitley - very fine deep-voiced American country singer

Patsy Kline - who you have probably heard of - sang "Crazy" - died in a plane crash

Bob Marley - how could you have forgotten him? I have always loved reggae

Marc Bolan - children of the revolution being my personal favourite

Way before anybodies time here, but the acolade must surely go to Enrico Caruso the greatest tenor ever, and the person who made the gramophone popular.
