  1. Nah, it's impratctical and does actually keep an awful lot of people in check. But as Mr G pointed out, the principals of a religion and the practice of religion usually have an immense gulf between the two. Given the choice of stopping people worshipping or stopping some poor lasses head being staved in by rocks which would you plump for? However, a different solution would be welcome if it allowed 'nice' religious people to go to church and quietly worship in their own way, and stopped 'nasty' religious people hurting others due to misinterpretations (or deliberate changes to) text that are all over a millenia old. This seems to cover all religions... the mental bible belters in America, the Islamic extremists of various places, the 'considered response' of the Jewish nations to the existance of a freely elected political party, etc. etc. etc. Religion is often as bad as politics!
  2. Oh, I didn't realise he was being serious! Is he insane or just scared of others opinions?
  3. Hmm, the problem in that case is people. As The great Mr Gandhi said; "I like your Christ, I do not like your Christians. Your Christians are so unlike your Christ."
  4. Isn't it odd how careful we have to be about a religion that will; - bury women up to their necks in sand and stone them to death - burn daughters for losing virginity out of wedlock - was founded by a warmongering bloke who heard voices - blow up the infidels at the drop of a hat When at the same time it's fair game to get at a religion that; - protects paedophiles - puts a nazi in it's top job - promotes (until recently) the spread of STIs and poverty in poor countries. There's something very wrong here... Face it folks, just ban religion!
  5. Thanks but that snippet of wisdom would've been better 3 hours ago. I have 2 cats frozen to my patio now!
  6. I'm not at work until 9am. The folks driving the gritters should be at work by then to get the roads clear for me! And I think you're a racist for calling me an eejit. You got a problem with the Irish?
  7. I'd have thought something like sulphuric acid would be worse for concrete. Possibly radioactive waste. Really not convinced that salt is the worst thing. For my part I've wheel spun an awful lot. This makes them hot and speeds the melting of the snow. Besides, don't we pay huge sums of money to the council for things like clearing the highways?
  8. I'm with TalkTalk... they're ok as long as you know how to fix things yourself. Various tech forums suggest it's because they use AOL's crappy old hardware and there is a problem with the supported MTU's. (MTU = maximum transmission unit, or the biggest size a lump of data can be broken into to be sent of the tinternet). I'll have to check my MTU setting but I think the max size supported by TalkTalk is 1400. Don't even bother mentioning it to their tech support as the poor chaps in India will probably melt. Send me a pm if you want me to send full info to you. Since changing to a lower MTU it has been a lot better but still glitchy as hell! They are after all the cheap and cheerful option.
  9. Last time I saw one of these was the Transvaal in 1832. It's clearly a vortex of damnation. Get a pair of polarising lenses, cross them at 38.2 degrees and look above the house to see how big it is. When did you first notice the vortex? If we move quickly we may just be able to save Yorkshire.
  10. Don't you folks read the scientific press? I'm shocked. This IS global warming... increasingly wet summers and warmer winters. Welcome to the new world order. But you have to admit, the monsoons are still an entertaining novelty. And the rain keeps the local urchins indoors so they're not bothering me.
  11. Oxidising agents rule! Poor jelly baby though.
  12. I recently bought a bag of jelly babies and was horrified to find only one black baby in there! Is it me or has the availability of black jelly babies suffered since the evil BNP got some new MEPS? Incidentally, this is a genuine question and whoever whinges about or deletes this post is clearly a racist.
  13. This is also absolutely brilliant. I've got into photography over the last few years and these pictures are truly superb. Very inspirational and rather jealous of some of the location's. Well recommended!!!
  14. I've been already and it's well worth it! Some beautiful image's!!! Well recommended.
