jomarch
Although no doubt Barnsley will come in from some stick from the Sheffielders on here- there really are some lovely parts of Barnsley, especially now the land has returned to it's pre-coal mining landscape. Anything to the north west is expensive but worth a look- Stainborough, Hood Green, Cawthorne, Silkstone- then you can go south - Darfield, Wombwell, Hoyland, all have good M1 links and are cheaper. In the town centre anything around Locke Park is quite sought after, but avoid Athersley, Lundwood, and anything that is near a river, or has methane tubes sticking out of the grass. there is alot of new building going on land that is below the flood line, and also old mining land that is full of gas!! Don't move into new housing around Wombwell station because it is possibly contaminated with carbon monoxide from the old foundry!!
Phylis
Try Oxspring or Penistone, both are lovely towns.
