Are the mods taking over the groups?...

We seem to have acquired a few extra knitting group leaders, in the form of all the forum mods :suspect: .

Looking forward to seeing what you can do, chaps! Who's the first volunteer to lead a cable tutorial then? ;)

knit one, purl one, ban one :P

Oooh, you can spell 'purl' correctly. You're recruited! Now, bamboo or aluminium needles?...

At the risk of being serious for a moment, No, we're not taking over the groups.

There have been occasions when there have been postings in groups of spam, etc. that needed removing. No Group Leaders were around to do it, so it fell to Neil, Tony or me to do it.

If WE'RE not around then it didn't get done.

So, the idea is that the Mods will stay out of the Groups unless there's soemthing specific like spam, etc. to deal with. Tony, neil and I haven't moderated in the Groups except to remove spam, and we have more powers than Group Leaders or Moderators - the Mods will act in teh same way. :)

Anyway Hecate- you already have a moderator who's a fan of the orchestrated tying knots in yarn (in all of its forms).

Just picture us as someone keeping an eye on the group if you aren't logged on.

I do see your point, Joe, but I always thought that the moderating policy you describe had been in operation since the Groups' inception, under the umbrella of general Forum modding.

The inclusion of the mods' names in the 'Group Leader' space doesn't bother me unduly, though it does imply an involvement and interest which might not necessarily exist, especially in the case of the Knitting group.

I don't view my role as leader of the knitting group as conferring any real moderating role, apart from those necessary to keep the group tidy. Rather, the title implies a degree of specialist knowledge, interest and skill which I doubt you ,Tony, DrNeil et al possess ;) .

I think that it's a product of the way in which Moderators are assigned rights in the groups.

I'm going to be updating the FAQs with a little note about teh Groups and will remind people that we know nuffink. :)

I have the thing set up that emails me when a new post is put on a thread I am subscribed to, and the other day I had an e-mail showing that one of the threads had a rather rude post just added to it. When I checked the forum it wasn't there anymore so I would assume it had been deleted by whichever mod had found it. It may have offended some people so for their sake it's probably a good idea that there are a lot of mods that can do this when any knitting group mods are offline.
