Trent Bore / Aegir : Natural Wonder Not Far Away (If You're Lucky)

Recommended Posts

On A N Other thread (here) it appeared there was some interest in the Trent Bore, also known as the Aegir.

The Bore predictions and more info is here.

We've been 3 or 4X and once was it really spectacular, but be warned it is often a damp squib and it can sometimes be early, up to 50min !

This is how it looked on the 1st Sept 2019, in the dusk it was even more atmospheric and its sound more noticeable, it was the best one we've seen. The fact the river was flat calm also made it all the more impressive. When we saw the Severn Bore years before that was negatively affected by speed boats churning up the river in front of it, and, it must be said, surfers on it.

We're heading over to Gainsborough for the predicted 5* bore at 19.40 on the 9th of April(there's also one on the 10th).

There's enough bores on here, without travelling to Gainsborough to see another one...

I still think this should be in the Sheffield section. Sheffield is the nearest large city to Gainsborough so it is relatively easy to get to for Sheffielders. It'll get buried in the "General" section.

I went fishing with a couple of mates on the Chesterfield canal at West Stockwith about thirty years ago and we popped into a pub overlooking the marina for a pint afterwards and noticed loads of people stood by the Trent. We asked what they were doing and we were told they were waiting for the Aeger. We waited for around twenty minutes and witnessed it ourselves and it was quite impressive.
