vics63 Posted June 10, 2017 Posted June 10, 2017 I want to add a more positive review of Broomhall! I don't live as far down as William St/Exeter Dr which have been commented on previously, and I admit that particular area seems a bit less desirable/safe. However, I have lived in Broomhall for 6 years and have never experienced any problems. I live near Broomspring Lane and I feel safe walking here at night (actually feel more safe here than previous areas I have lived in Sheffield). My particular road is very quiet and there have been no obvious signs of trouble or disharmony. As stated in the original post, location wise it's great, especially if you don't own a car. Five minutes walk to town or to the nearest tram stop, very near to Crookes and Ecclesall Road etc. It sounds like some people have had some genuinely bad experiences in this area, but just wanted to say that I personally haven't and enjoy living here
liza D Posted June 11, 2017 Posted June 11, 2017 My family lived there most of our lives and it was great until the influx of refugees, who have now taken over the area. (Not racist, fact.) I wouldn't live there now if you paid me. Plus if you have a car it's a nightmare to park thanks to the uni buying up most of the buildings and the council making cash out of the "residents parking" con. Try finding out the crime stat's for the area.
safia90 Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) Broomhall to me is a good area I do have family/friends all over, I am seeing a couple of posts about Exeter Drive area and how people think it's unsafe I think its an alright area never felt unsafe at all. ---------- Post added 12-06-2017 at 01:45 ---------- My family lived there most of our lives and it was great until the influx of refugees, who have now taken over the area. WalkleyIan Posted June 14, 2017 Posted June 14, 2017 Plus if you have a car it's a nightmare to park thanks to the uni buying up most of the buildings and the council making cash out of the "residents parking" con. That makes no sense. I thought the point of the week day residents zone in Broomhall was to get rid of all the University staff from both SHU and UoS that used the whole area as free parking. Do you remember how it used to be before the zone? Total nightmare, especially in the Groves area when I worked at collegiate crescent . Im told it was equally bad round Broomspring Lane How much is the con these days? Last I heard it was less than a quid a week (36 quid a year) . Its 9 quid a day in the Q park on Durham Rd. Rather than buying up properties the University has been selling much of its estate round there and moving into the "campus" area . I used to work in an office in an old house on Wilkinson St but we were moved into the IC when it opened over 10 years ago.
student21 Posted September 15, 2021 Posted September 15, 2021 Sorry for bringing up an old thread but I was just wondering about specific areas in Broomhall. I understand that the Exeter Drive area and to a lesser extent the bit inside the ring road never Dev Green aren’t great, while the Groves is pretty middle class and generally seen as a nice area, however I was wondering what the area just south of Glossop Road is like. Specifically, I am looking at a student house on Filey Street (the north side of Broomspring Lane). Thanks if anyone can help!
Lionel Richtea Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 There's a reason why the massive houses in Broomhall are reasonably priced.
the_bloke Posted October 20, 2021 Posted October 20, 2021 Ten plus years ago I used to work in Broomhill and jog home, with my route taking me down Broomspring Lane. I often used to have to avoid a congregation of smackheads and drunks as I went past Havelock street as they seemed drawn in by the dilapidated house on the corner. My jog would frequently entail hopping over broken glass from car thefts and at times I had racial abuse from children. No idea what it's like now, but places don't change that quickly; I'd still consider it a dump.
crookesey Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 The police know where to find the baduns, they are unlikely to clean up an area that is of use to them, and say they changed their minds, where would the baduns go? Hopefully not on my street, selfish I know but what the hell?

Seriously? This is terrible. What did you do? Challenge the racism??
