Applegrim   10 #1 Posted December 20, 2014 I am looking to give our Shih Tzu a new home. he is one year old, housetrained, fully inoculated, loves walking. The problem is that he doesn't like too much fussing and he gets quite stroppy, he nips and growls .I think with the right owner he will stop this, he needs someone who will be top dog.! Any advice is welcome. Thank you A
 Share this content via...

H_Hounds   10 #7 Posted December 20, 2014 Sorry to hear that it isn't working. They say people with disabilities can benefit greatly from canine companionship.  At one year old, dogs can go through a 'teenage phase', which needs to be managed well. Just a thought, but I wonder if you had a consultation with a dog trainer you may be able to overcome some of the issues you are having with the dog? I have used Tim Bleecker in Mansfield who is a positive reinforcement dog trainer and he has before suggested Victoria at People and Dogs for a positive reinforcement trainer in Sheffield.  I, of course, don't know you or your situation but maybe there are certain triggers for the dog's reactions to your son that could easily be spotted by an outside eye.  I do find shih tzu's to be quite 'stroppy' natured/big character-ed dogs myself as a groomer but I have quite a few shih tzu clients who live well with children at home.  If you feel like rehoming is the right option though I wish you all the best in finding the right home.
