Online/TV Gambling

Recommended Posts

Have you, or do you know anyone who has won a reasonable amount of money gambling either online on on tv?

Or do you think it's just another "idiot tax" like the Lotto?

Lotto is an idiot tax?? Really???

im sure the couple who won over £161 million would disagree with you.

Gambling is just that. Gambling. Its a game. The thrill is the fact that you MIGHT win.

It doesn't matter if its a £5 win on a greyhound after a 50p bet or a £200 blackjack win at a casino from a £20 bet. The process is the same. You MIGHT win or you MIGHT lose your stake.

The only problem is people own self control. It can be an addiction like many other things. That's the only problem with it. However, anyone can be addicted to anything if their mind lets them. You could be addicted to hob nobs or pink curtains or scratching your bits. It cant all be banned.

Yes, really.

im sure the couple who won over £161 million would disagree with you.

I'm sure the tens of millions who have never won much at all would disagree with you. IF they ever thought about it. Which, of course, they won't. Q.E.D.

It won't happen to you! Average weekly lottery player loses almost £150 a year

A survey of more than 1,700 people has confirmed what is possibly the world's worst kept secret: lottery players are on a hiding to nothing.

Discount website VoucherCodesPro has estimated that the amount lost by weekly National Lottery players over the course of the year is just shy of £150.

With £3 the average amount spent each week - a Lotto and Euromillions ticket the most popular combination - the cost mounts up to £156-a-year, with players saying on average they will win just £10 of this back, the equivalent of getting three numbers on Lotto.

But the chances of winning the typical six-ball Lotto draw stands at around one in 14 million, with the odds of matching just three numbers about one in 57.

How many Lotto millionaires do you know? Do you know someone who knows a Lotto millionaire. Or someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows a Lotto millionaire?

Since 1995 around 3,000 millionaires have been created. Number of people who play the Lotto each week? 32 million [LINK]

“A Lottery is a Taxation,

Upon all the Fools in Creation;

And Heav'n be praised,

It is easily raised,

Credulity's always in Fashion:

For, Folly's a Fund,

Will Never Lose Ground,

While Fools are so rife in the Nation.”

Henry Fielding, The Lottery

I dont understand what your point is supposed to be.

So people lose around £3.00 a week. So what? That's part of gambling. Nobody is forcing people to play so how is it a "tax".

Many will spend far more than that each week on Bingo, Horses, Greyhounds, Fruit Machines, casino betting or call in voting/competitions.

Should all that be classed as an idiot tax too??

I personally dont know any lotto millionaires but I do know a few people who have won a few thousand, dozens who have won a couple of hundred and too many to count who have won £10.

So you gamble your £3.00 or £1.00 stake and win a tenner.

**ding* *ding* we have a winner.

Its not just about millionaires - I just used that as an example. Any amount awarded over your original stake is a win.

How much and how many times you put down a stake is down to an individual. As I say before, there is nothing wrong with gambling. Its a fun activity where the thrill is whether you win or lose above your stake.

It doesn't matter if its a £1 risk or £500,000 risk. That's your choice.

Ones own self control is the issue. Like eating, drinking, smoking, sex, dancing, shopping, spending or anything else you can think of. You have to be in control to do it as much or as little as you can handle. You have to know when enough is enough.

If you bet on red, and double your stack each time you lose, the odds of 10 black is just over 1000 to 1
