Takes me back this. Let's see, circa mid 90s:

Terminus (now flats)

Peacock

Victoria

Britannia

Rose and crown

Three horse shoes (now the ale house ?)

Brampton mile

Prince of Wales

Anchor

red lion

Barrel

New inn (called something else I think)

Alma

Royal oak

Square and compass

The sun

Some people counted the Portland.

Cant remember the grouse much (just down from the royal oak ?) forgot about the star as well (is it still even open ?) but I thought I was one short !

The others are before my time.

Which period would this have been, Kerry?

I ask the question about The Brampton Mile, after someone mentioned The Eccles Mile, in a local pub and said there were about 26 pubs on it, Eccles that is.

I googled the "Eccles Mile" and there were no links to it at all, but "The Brampton Mile" was mentioned in loads of places.

Could the BM have held the record for the most pubs within a mile stretch?

Definitely a regional thing. The first thing I thought of when I saw the title was the Brampton Straight Mile - a long straight road running to Brampton E-L Morthern near Rotherham.
