Car not starting

Recommended Posts

I have a 2001 mazda 323. 2.0 turbo diesel. I turn the key to start it but all i get is a clicking noise. Doesnt even try cranking. I have taken the starter off the car and connected it to jump leads there is nothing what so ever. If i sit turning the key for ages it will eventually start. Any1 got any idea what it could be.

You say you have powered the starter motor up with the jump leads and it doesn't engage ?

Yep it is broken, sounds as if it could be starter solenoid, you can't test starter motors 100% by putting jump leads on them when they are off the car. Try to bump start it if that works you know its some thing in the starter motor circuit.

this cold weather is a drain on the battery, what with lights on,heater on,heated rear window on,and then the starting up,you take out more than you put in and then it eventualy bites you when you dont expect it too,

IT IS NOT THE BATTERY, could be an earth fault though. Try a jump start off another car and I bet it still won't start.

Best way to test a battery is when your engine is running, disconnect the earth lead if it still runs then your alternator is ok and it will be battery at fault, if it stops then its alternator remember a car only needs battery to start it.
