Kidorry
My wife has an external hard drive for her old laptop and if she leaves it plugged in,every time she starts up the laptop you cannot open the external HD until it has finished downloading everything on it.This takes an age. She has XP.Is there any way I can stop this for her.I leave mine plugged in all the time with no problems.I forget the name of the HD but I will look when I get home,I know it is German.(sorry about wrong headline) Edited March 23, 2012 by Kidorry Stated disc instead of drive in headline
tintin123
The only thing I can think of is that XP is indexing all the files on the external drive. Try turning off indexing. This explains how to do it. http://lifehacker.com/031440/turn-off-indexing-and-speed-up-windows-xp
