  1. The signs could perhaps be improved if the left hand lane (on the sign) had a left turning arrow and the right hand lane a right turning arrow, showing you can only turn left or right in those lanes. At the moment a quick glimpse of the sign might suggest that you can go straight on in any lane. Pictures tell a better story than words.
  2. The thing to remember is that fuses in plugs and mcbs are there to protect the cable, not the appliance as such. The cooker with the plug on. will have a cable rated at 13 amps, protected by a 13 amp fuse in the plug. If you cut off the plug and hard wire it to a circuit/cable that is protected by an mcb or fuse rated at 15 or 30 amps then the cooker cable is no longer protected at 13 amps. If ,as suggested by someone above, you change the cooker wallplate to a standard 13 amp socket and plug the cooker into that then everything is protected correctly. I had this done at my flat last year.
  3. The Stagecoach app on Android or Apple phone. You can register your debit card or use Paypal.
  4. If an Audi drove over it at 40mph then he/she was driving without due care and attention and speeding because there are new 30mph limit signs well before the new mini roundabout. It's a mini roundabout which you will be able to 'drive over' once it is tarmaced and the surface is flush, just follow the roundabout rules. The works seem to be overrunning because the road closures for the tram rail replacement are taking preference. Works stopped when Donetsk Way was closed and this week Eckington Way is closed meaning Moss Way is extra busy and the roundabout works have stopped again. I've done Moss Way BSL several times this week and it is much freer flowing.
  5. It's 4 hours, but I don't believe there are cameras, just parking attendants walking around. They may scan number plates, but you'd be unlucky to get caught if only slightly over the 4 hours. Upstairs above Sainsbury's is the easiest place to find a space at busy times.
  6. Generally you will get a better rate if you pre-order on-line rather than just walk-in a store. Thomas Cook's reserve and collect has fairly good rates if you pre-order. A bonus with them is that there is no need to pre-pay, can reserve for collection the same day and there is no commitment until you collect. 1.1744 with them today.
  7. Agreed. Not as bad though as the muppets turning right out of the car park, who stop immediately before the pedestrian crossing, thinking the red light is for them. To be fair the layout of the lights at this junction is very poor. It would be better if the turn right into the car park was a give way and take the 'repeater' light away.
  8. You can't really count Crystal Peaks as an out of town shopping centre. It is primarily the shopping centre for the local area (Mosborough Townships) and before it was built there was nothing in the vicinity of the newly built estates. It is the modern equivalent of the shopping streets of Hillsborough, Broomhill or Woodseats. I doubt you recommend closing the shops there.
  9. I agree. Live in S20 but now always go ring-road towards Dore, Hope Valley, Winnats, Chapel, Whaley Bridge, Pott Shrigley, Adlington, Styal. A sat-nav helps past Whaley Bridge. Consistently takes me around 1 hour 40 minutes. It might be be slightly slower than best time via Snake or Woodhead, but it is consistent whatever time of day.
  10. It has an S20 postcode and is in Drakehouse/Waterthorpe. The whole area excluding Beighton/Sothall is known as the Mosborough Townships, so saying it is at Mosborough is fine. I live nearby and always say I live at Mosborough or near Crystal Peaks to those from outside the area.
  11. Maybe they should find out how Amsterdam deals with it. There are lots of tram tracks and everybody uses bicycles. What is their accident rate?
  12. Google 'credit card for bad credit'. Read Moneysavingexpert link.
  13. You might be best looking online, although you can't check the quality. Argos will have a selection and many furniture sellers have 'shops' on EBay.
  14. Properties for auction with sitting tenants are usually external inspection only. Anybody investing should/will know the area and will have an educated idea on the properties likely condition and how much money will need to be spent.
  15. I'm surprised they have finished the works on the Townend to Halfway section. They seem to have done little on White Lane other than a section near the tram stop (inbound). Most of the rest of the work has been on curved sections and road crossings between Birley Moor road and Halfway. Maybe the straight sections aren't worn enough to need replacing.
  16. I totally agree. I have yet to find any adopted road that is as bad anywhere. It was laid down in the 70s and has never been touched since It is just a patchwork of patches. It does seem though that it might be sorted shortly as Amey have been putting in lots of new dropped curbs and some of it's side roads are scheduled to be resurfaced imminently. Hurrah.
  17. Digital Region is running as normal for existing customers, but closed to new customers. The business is not up for sale as a going concern. It is effectively in administration/liquidation. The assets (physical network, cabinets, fibre etc.) are up or sale. There have apparently been a couple of interested parties. Existing customers are in the dark as to what is going to happen to their service over the coming months. The best guesses are that the network will close in the summer and we will be migrated over to the BT network at some stage. Councils are negotiating with BDUK to provide grants to BT to subsidise upgrades of exchanges where it would currently be uneconomic to do so. There was a recent announcement about some exchanges in Doncaster.
  18. But your not necessarily expected to go around them, it's an indication that you need to treat them like roundabouts as far as priority is concerned, i.e. traffic crossing your path from the right has priority. There's a couple in Killamarsh which work really well.
  19. Temporary lights are never timed very well because they can cover some distance, but I would imagine that from 4:30 to 6 it will be a logjam. It seems madness to me that they downgraded the entrance from a roundabout to lights. Time will tell.
  20. Round about the time that work started on site, the Asda website was saying March, but I can't see anything on there now. Looks like the shell should be complete by the end of the month. Gives them 3-4 months to fit it out. Possible I guess.
  21. I hear what you are saying and it is a shame, but just because it is a council department doing the letting, doesn't mean they can speak on behalf of planning. I assume planning have served the cease notice on the landlord (in this case council lettings), who have passed it on. Planning will only get to know about things if you tell them, or someone complains, which is how people doing stuff in their backyards get away with it. He has already talked to a solicitor who sounds as if has said you're flogging a dead horse.
  22. The thing here is that he/you are confusing council the landlord and council the planning department. Two separate things. They won't necessarily and need not talk to one another. If the council building works department/Kier want to build something they still have to talk to the planning department. I can understand the possible confusion that by talking to one department he thought he was talking to the council as a whole but that is sadly not the case.
  23. But the council as landlord don't care that the guy doesn't have the right permission. They just want somebody to pay them rent. If I own a yard and you rent it from me, I might not be that fussed what you do in it. Doesn't mean you don't have to get the right planning consent. The bottom line is that you should consult a solicitor before you sign any business lease. I'm also sure that many running garages at their home don't have the right consent.
  24. You have already raised this in another thread under employment. It sounds like one part of the council is your landlord. You have done the right thing in talking to your landlord to ensure they are happy with the way you are going to use their premises. You would do this regardless of who your landlord is. Just because your landlord is happy though, doesn't mean that you have all the legal requirements in place. The landlord just wants the rent and is not bothered that you haven't done your legal checks. All premises have some kind of planning consent, whether it be residential or one of the various business uses. Unless it is fairly obvious like you rent an office to do office work, in an office block, then you should check with the council planning department, before you take on a lease, to see what kind of planning consent it has and if necessary apply for change of use. For instance if you take on the lease of a florists shop and want to turn it into a take-away you would probably need change of use. I'm afraid you haven't done your homework up front and there is no point in blaming the council. All you can do is apply for change of use now, but this could take some time and may or may not be granted.
