Baby buggy off roading

Recommended Posts

As some members here will know, me, Mr Strix and the hound enjoy a good walk, but for the time being we have a little person in tow who has forced us to look for alternatives to our favourite routes

Brude is fantastic at spotting stiles for us when footpaths aren't immediately evident across a field, and often suggests we take a route he's found off a footpath, but hasn't figured out that the buggy won't go over or through a stile easily!

So, does anybody know of any good walks where we can freely push an off road baby buggy? (so no climbing/scrambling either!)

Is Chatsworth worth the expedition for instance? Can we tackle the five weirs walk?

The grounds of Chatsworth, without a doubt. Whether you choose the surrounding fields or the actual gardens, both are accessible.

Have you tried Monsal Trail?

Depends what you class as "off roading", are you looking for well kept flat paths or can you do other types. ?

ooo - It's years since we walked on the Monsal Trail - the hound was only new then

We have a three wheeled buggy designed for more rugged terrain, but it is a bumpy ride for the occupant if it's rocky for instance

well trodden woodland paths as wide as a house door are ideal, but for the time being we're open to tarmac routes too

Monsal has since gone under a transformation, the tunnels are now open, which adds to the magic of that particular trail.

How about walking from Grindleford to Burbage Bridge and back. Nice paths through woodland and then a gravel path taking you up to Burbage Bridge. Oh, and if you didn't know, there is often an ice cream van up at the car park :)

The Monsal trail is full of ignorant cyclists.

It looks like Monsal is top of our list then - any other ideas?

Is anybody familiar with the sheffield round walk or sections of it?

There are some pretty demanding hill and steps which might not be so buggy friendly. These are located at the section behind Dore station.

Recommend Ecclesall Woods and also, Wentworth Castle and the surrounding area :)

if it's only short sections, and not too many, we'd be able to manage those - H loves walking up steps now

Wentworth Castle sounds interesting too

Presumably by 'little un' you mean Brude :hihi: He's a demon for deer - a flaw for a beagle!
