Eastern Europeans Problems

Recommended Posts

If only.

Foreign workers are often exploited, and some people born here too.

Extracting rent from people is immoral.

How would you like it if I was landlord of your family , and each of you paid 50% of your income unto me?

How could that be fair?

Eastern European workers are by and large 100% legal to work in the UK, and don't need to approach gangmasters who trade in illegals... Those who work for regular agencies recieve their sick and holiday pay.. Extracting rent? You misunderstand - paying your rent is paying your way! It's immoral not to pay for your own housing - unless you are so incapable for whatever reason, then the state will take care of you... The state shouldn't be responsible for those of us who can work and pay for themselves... Who are these landlords where each person pays 50% of their income? I rented for years, shared housing and properties with just me and a partner, and we didn't have to pay 50% of our combined incomes at all - we simply rented where we could afford... You imagine people are as daft as you! Most rental property is farmed out through letting companies where you have a direct debit and a contract - even in deals between yourself and a landlord without a letting place, you'd still have a contract and something approaching a rent book...

How is a person supposed to plan for the future when the roof over their head isn't secure, they might pay their rent on full, in time and look after their property, but if their B2L landlord doesn't pay the mortgage, they could become homeless!

Rental accommodation is often for life. And increasingly so.

Home ownership has fallen, council tenancy too. There has been a boom in private landlords. They extract wealth from others. Their behaviour is parasitic, it is not productive.

Buying to let is the new pension - why can't you accept that many people to let out one or two properties do so for their own future security? Those who are on the bottom rung today will rise as they get older, and those who once rented have every chance to become a landlord through hard work and education... You don't have to always be the one renting - noone gets to tell anyone where they live, you can always move cities or even countries if things are moving fast enough in your work where you are... We are all free to choose for ourselves - rent a large property and skint yourself, rent a small one and have more cash for other things - buy a property to live in, buy one to rent out... Renting a home to someone isn't parasitic, expecting your rent to be covered by others is... Renting in Europe is generally for life - we are the only ones bothered! There is no stigma - why attach one??? Are you really so dim?

Ok it should be stirring not string bloody stupid spell checker

Do they have big spoons when they are stirring? Do you mean staring by any chance? These demonic Eastern Europeans must be all over the country. I drove through a village in Derbyshire the other day and there was a group of what must have been Eastern Europeans staring at me. Strangely they looked very much like English people as they talked with exceptional English skills and pronunciation!!!!!

I'm pretty sure the word thats got everyone talking is 'staring'. A simple typo, then a later error and its created a huge discussion. But that's sorted now. So lets not talk about it any more, OK?

And back on topic. I actually have lots of sympathy for the OP. I wouldn't want to live in an area where the general behaviour is anti social, where people hang about outside my home or my neighbours'. I'm pretty open minded about immigration (although I know its not managed particularly well), and living among people from different cultures can be fine. Been there, done that and found good and bad from all backgrounds.

The real issue IMO is the general lack of respect by some people for others, and for the property of others. It's time the authorities started to take a seriously hard line with those who neglect and damage the homes and gardens they occupy and with those who persist in making their neighbours' lives hell. We should all be able to live peacefully within our homes, and in my experience as an ex housing officer 'homegrown' tenants can cause just as much (and more) heartache and suffering by their behaviour. The experience depends hugely on where people live whether the problems are caused by recent arrivals to the UK (who may have some excuse) or those who have been here always (who really don't).

the area i previously lived in i saw a lot of the problems the OP has had. at one count there were over 20 people in a 2 bed house next door, loud all night partys that would end in brawls in the street that the police would have to attend, some times arrests would be made and on one occasion social workers were escorted in the next morning, i assume to try and help thier situations

i had people let themselves into my home, that taught me to always lock doors and the landlord eventually changed the locks when we realised the previous tenants he had to have evicted due to non payment of rent had kept keys

playing with my child in the garden was a no go due to groups of adult men coming into the garden to watch. im sure they meant no harm but it made me uncomfortabe to have people there in my garden, uninvited that i couldnt understand when they spoke

oh yes it's digusting!!! maybe they took the dogs and cats and cooked them for dinner.... the god damn withches & animals!!!! Question... How do you know it's them?? Your post seems boderline racist to me, most eastern europeans come here for work and probably do a damn sight more work than some of us brits, in my experience they are hardworking, resourceful & proud people with an excellent work ethic. Put yourself in their shoes for a minute and think about how desperate you would have to be to go through someones bin. Every Eastern European I have met has been generally nice, but as with all ethnic groups some are good some are people are bad regardless of where they are from, think about it and you can probably name several council estates where English behave in some of the ways you describe. If I was you I would try to make them feel welcome maybe then their behavior will change.

It's unfortunate that some people on here, view posts like this as simply racist. It's patronising & unhelpful to say that to people who may've experienced these problems long-term.

Unfortunately, it's a fact that certain ethnic groups in the city, cause more local trouble than others, & anyone who's spent a while in such areas, knows this to be true.

As for tackling it, it needs co-operation on all levels: involvement of ethnic community leaders, safer-neighbourhood teams, council, police, & education regarding potential problems through local schools etc

How is where these people are from relevant??!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have lived in areas that are home to many ethnic groups all my life and think it is unfair to point out someones race and blame that for their bad manners. People are what they are good and bad and it's unfair to give one ethnic group a bad name because a small group are anti social. Lot's of people display crappy behavior, but how is where they are from really relevant? I am sorry but it is racist in every definition, and to me suggests that people are in agreement with segregation. What if I put a post on here saying that all asians are thiefs because an asain family stole from me. I would hope people would be upset and think it is unacceptable. I have had nightmare neighbours too one group that sounded much worse than described here and guess what they were English!! There are good and bad people all over the world, but pin pointing like this is like saying one ethnic group are bad or savage.

I don't agree that people on here are 'pro-segregation' - quite the opposite. They wish for people to integrate fully into British society & adopt/respect those standards & customs - just as we should do if we were to emigrate to another country ourselves.

Unfortunately, many ethnic groups in the UK are introspective, self-interested & self-ghetto-ising - and that gives rise to local tensions. Plus it can be inter-ethnic conflict as well: Indian v Pakistani, Afro-Carribean v Somalian, Serbian v Croation - it's not just (pardon the pun) a black & white issue.

There has been a major increase in Eastern Europeans in Sheffield over the last couple of years, some parts of Sheffield have had a larger number moving in than others.

Now what I am getting at is the street that I live on has about 12 families living their, all in rental 2 bedroom properties, they have made a mess of the houses and gardens, rubbish all over, used toilet paper left in alley ways and gardens, young kids as old as 3 to 11 running into busy roads, breaking trees and fences, adults sat on walls drinking beer whilst string at every one who goes past, some of these houses have 18 people living in them, teenagers boys following and intimidating young girls, they are going through people's rubbish bins at night just taking bags of rubbish then leaving it all over the roads, stealing clothes of washing lines, leaving long-lines in the parks lakes and streams to catch fish, a lot of our neighbours have had their pet cats and dogs go missing, attacking swans and other wildlife, they are not seeking asylum, they are just here getting an easy life with payouts for everything.

You have a lot of swans in the area do you?

It started off as a reasonable rant, but you just got carried away and started putting in details you read once in the Sun.

It was the Daily Mail actually, here.

If you ever need first hand experience, take a walk around the likes of Darnall and Page Hall, then you can pass comment.

Why are we likely to see a Polish person chowing down on a swan? Or can we laugh at that once we've had this walk around?

This probably hasn't helped either ...

"City of Sanctuary is a movement to build a culture of hospitality for refugees and asylum-seekers. In 2007, with the support of the City Council, Sheffield became the UK’s first ‘City of Sanctuary’ for asylum-seekers and refugees - a city that takes pride in the welcome it offers to people in need of safety … "
