Lots of people seem to be thinking way too much about why employers choose migrant workers over unemployed British. I, and every employer I know uses a fair system and selects the best candidate for the position advertised. Why the hell should I have to employ a potentially inferior worker JUST because they're British? I makes very little sense.

I've no idea how you've even managed to link the two in your head, doesn't really fit too well does it?

Problem is that the media has created the myth that you must get a degree or you are worthless. I run my own business and to constantly hear them banging on about it depresses me let alone a 16 year old with a handful of GCSEs. The hospitality industry is now almost exclusively foreign maybe for the sales dept. Even receptionists who can barely speak English is not uncommon. And this isn't back street flop houses this 4 star hotel chains, which makes me think who they turned down ? It might be work ethic (I've not seen many swing the lead) if might be merely the reputation of a good work ethic but I remember watching a young polish kid clean up whilst his "colleagues" messed about and watched. I know they aren't all saints but it was an interesting illustration.

 

I know it's only anecdotal but it can't be isolated or we wouldn't be having this thread.

Depriving people of their economic prosperity based upon their (in this case British) national origin, in favour of non-British origin people is a chilling idea which comes from the dark recesses of history.

You seem to be reading my post incorrectly. I employ people based on their skills rather than because of their national origin. If that means those employees aren't British, it cannot possibly be classed as racist discrimination.

 

Why should people not be hired on their skills and ability?
