was that at Fiskerton?

SE of Lincoln on the Trent?

I'm not sure about Fiskerton but Five Mile House wasn't on the Trent.

The train used to call at Gainsborough Lea Road for the Trent, then Saxilby and then Lincoln. I'm sure that Five Mile House was the next stop, before Bardney, so it was on the River Witham.

After a while, the train stopped calling at Five Mile House and I seem to remember that it was because the wooden platform was rotten and dangerous.

Eventually the whole train service was scrapped in the mid sixties by the infamous Doctor Beeching.

We used to go to Bardney, Southrey or Stixwould.

To Twinky 1

Dean Marshall and the Deputies started life at the Tanner Hop as you call it. They went on to become Jigsaw.

Before they were The Deputies they were called the Falcons..used to reherse at the Catholick Church at Lane Top.

Unregistered I've pm'd you the co-ordinates for Five Mile House Station - adjacent the Witham , SE of Fiskerton - hope that helps :)

For anyone else 504909,372120 into http://www.oldmaps.co.uk - its in the South East corner of the map in enlarged view.

Thanks for that but oldmaps is old-maps now.

Looks like Five Mile House was a one horse town, five miles from anywhere!

Parts of Parson Cross were definately still being farmed in the late 1950's but I'm not sure if the activity actually survived into the sixties.

What we called the cornfields were on both sides of Adlington Road. One side now has a community centre on it and the other side had part of the Lytton Estate built on it.
