Rupert_Baehr   10 #25 Posted May 7, 2011 Just use your legs more or cycle...The car industry will feel it and lower their prices when sales drop.  Does your bicycle have a 5th wheel? Can you tow a 40-ton trailer laden with food to Tesco?
 Share this content via...
Rupert_Baehr   10 #26 Posted May 7, 2011 In the USA, they are currently moaning at the price of fuel. On your chart, their current price falls somewhere between what we were paying between 1997 and 1998. Granted, that isn't really relevant to anything, but I thought I'd point it out  The relevance is (as I pointed out on another thread) that fuel prices at the pump in the US are particularly sensitive to bulk oil price changes.  If the price of crude increases by 50% but the pump price is largely tax (and if the tax per litre doesn't change) then the cost to the motorist/businessman doesn't change by anywhere near as much as it does when tax is 10% of your pump price.  If you're running a business then you set your prices considering those of your competitors and your costs. If your costs increase be 30% in a few weeks, will you put up your prices or will you try to hold them steady and hope your competitors go out of business?  Can you afford to do that?  Small businesses tend to stop trading. Gram? Â Â 10 #32 Posted May 7, 2011 (edited) The French know how to protest. Â They had one last week about petrol prices, and instead of blockading, the whole country just collectively agreed to not buy fuel for a day. It worked and prices were reduced the very next day. Â They may be horrible people, but the frogs certainly know how to kick off when needed. Edited May 7, 2011 by Gram?
 Share this content via...
