Vocal Cord Nodules

Recommended Posts

Hi

Has anyone had any experience of Vocal Cord Nodules? My little boy has had a croaky voice which is getting worse since I would say the New Year. I have found this condition on the internet and it sounds pretty spot on (I am taking him to the doctors after the Bank Holiday)

Thanks

Vocal cord nodules aren't that common in children, so I wouldn't assume that it's what he's got unless it's confirmed by a doctor, for which he'll have to be referred to a specialist and have a camera down his throat to check.

There are lots of other things which can cause a croaky voice, including as alirosdan has said, using asthma inhalers without rinsing the throat with a drink just after using them, chronic laryngitis, snoring (which can be caused by all sorts of things, even in the young) and tonsil or adenoid problems which lead to mouth breathing.

I have very narrow nasal passages and had a tonsil problem until they were removed when I was 12. Because of these two issues together I have always struggled to maintain a sufficient airway to breathe through my nose when asleep and that causes my throat to dry out and my voice to be very croaky, especially in the mornings. It's natural and there's no damage to my vocal cords.

Thank you for your reply Medusa.

I seemed to go towards the nodules as he is always shouting/talking loudly so thought this might have contributed to it. I have had a look on the internet and things seem to add up although I would never trust internet diagnosis alone. I am going to book an appointment at the docs for Tuesday to see what is wrong.

I knew about the tube down the throat thing and I feel a little better knowing that it isn't common in children as it isn't a nice thing to have to go through I guess.

All will be revealed Tuesday but I would still appreciate any comments in relation to this subject.

Thanks
