snippers
regarding heat (laptop hot)this is due to your fan being full of dust.undo screws on back(only around vented area take back off clean out, back takes a bit of pulling) this is worth doing as if it gets too hot it will start shutting down i do this every month takes 5 mins

Paul Blade
It's Vista. I'm going to dedicate the whole of today to this. Do you think my sound card could be knackered? This laptop gets really hot. Do you have it on your lap? or maybe on a cushion as it gets really hot?

BoroughGal
With regard to system beeps etc - no, getting nothing. Thanks for advice re fan, will have a go at this. But it always has been hot from new, I think it was one of the things that came up in the reviews. I've just reinstalled drivers again, no joy. swarfendor437
Hi BoroughGal, Is this of any help? Having pointed you to this link it is a bit disconcerting that you don't get any beep at boot time which might suggest speakers gone west but try the link first. swarfendor43
