jake   10 #25 Posted October 21, 2005 I lived in Sydney for 6 months - and the licensing was very different - basically the average local pub seemd to stay open till about midnight, the busier and town centre pubs would stay open till 4 and there were a couple (in the whole city) of 24 hour bars - come 8am mainly filled with a strange mixture of post clubbers, bar staff from late bars having an after work drink, and a smattering of alkies... thats system seemed to work well and it was nice going home and relaxing a bit on a friday before going out - rather than getting in from work & rushing out like we do in the UK.  Personaly, as long as there is no detriment to the locality (noise etc), I think bars should be able to make their own decision on when its commercially viable to stay open.  Its also worth saying that there are countless local pubs that stay open well past 11 (there are 3 within 200 yds of my house) and always ahve done without any serious affects on the local area... so whats the probelm?
