MartAnd   10 #1 Posted May 17, 2009 Hi  We would be grateful to hear from anybody who can give us any feedback (negative or positive) about their experiences of junior school provision for ASD/Asperger's kids in SW Sheffield or the surrounding area. Our child has a Statement of Special Needs.  Thanks  Martin & Andrea
 Share this content via...
waltona   10 #2 Posted May 18, 2009 Might be an idea to contact the National Autistm Society Sheffield branch. Many of the parents there will be able to give you good advice and feedback about the schools in Sheffield and area. Good luck. Dizzyblonde   10 #3 Posted May 18, 2009 I agree with waltona, they are more likely to give you relevant information, my kids did very well at Abbey Lane and certainly got individual attention when they needed - but there have been a couple of changes in the management team since and things can change overnight. What ends up being a good school, depends on how many other children with similar needs are chasing the same resources, perhaps visit schools that you are considering? rach73   10 #4 Posted May 18, 2009 (edited) My son went to the Rowan, he was diagnosed with ASD and ADHD, the school was fantastic, did lots to support parents as well. The school is at Dore but they provide transport. Would highly recommend you going for a look around, staff are really experienced and helpful. Hope this helps  Good luck xx Edited May 19, 2009 by rach73
 Share this content via...
JayneRay   10 #5 Posted May 18, 2009 It depends on your sons ability as ASD is a wide spectrum. Contact SEN section ask for a brochure look at IR schools and specialised provision. I wish you well in your quest.
 Share this content via...
Star_sprinkl   10 #6 Posted May 19, 2009 I think there is an integrated resource for ASD at Nook Lane Junior but that is in Stannington. Have SEN indicated whether they think your child needs an integrated resource or not?
 Share this content via...

rach73 Â Â 10 #8 Posted May 19, 2009 I went to look round Nook lane, it was really good but depends on how servere ya son is, it was no good for my son as he needed smaller classes, he couldnt cope with all children in mainstream, it all really depends on how your son is, I would ring both schools and go an look around. Ruthie* Â Â 10 #12 Posted May 20, 2009 (edited) I understand that King Egburts has a large number of children who are on AS studying there. I believe that there is a specialist unit. Why don't you contact the Sheffiled autisic Society and ask them...they are achually meeting tonight..
