Farm behind Manor Lane School - Any information.

Directly across city Road at its junction with Granville Road looking towards Wyborne with the back of the old school situated at the bottom of Manor Lane.

A farm existed in the early 1940s.

 

I think that they kept Pigs. Has anyone any confirmations or memorys?

I attended Manor Lane School in the late 40s. I remember on City Rd immediately below where the school stood on the corner of Manor La and City Rd there used to be one or two pigs (black and white, Wessex Saddlebacks?) in a pen. So that would jive with your recollections of a farm. Funny how after all these years I can recall something like that so vividly and in so much detail.

i think it belonged to "Cowlishaws" .They owned most of the farmland on Manor Lane right down to where the parkway is now. Where the sliproad off the parkway is to Manor Lane was where Cowlishaws pond was which we used to play near as kids!! late 60"s before the Parkway construction started and cleared the whole area.

The ex school playing next to the now industrial estate was Allens farm. I remember as a kid all the pigs in the field.

The years that I'm refering to are 942 - 1944.

 

If I remember correctly, Opposite Warley Road, directly across Manor Lane, but above the school. A rough track ran along the right-hand side of the school wall. on the left side was a few allotments. My Grand Father had one.

 

If this track ran to the Farm, I never knew though I do know that a entrance to the farm was opposite the top of Granville Road on City Road.
