Last Minute Holiday Advice

Recommended Posts

Does anyone here book VERY last minute holidays at all - like, turning up at the airport and seeing what's available for that day?

Just wondered what sort of bargain you could expect from doing this, what the pitfalls might be and whether you had any advice for doing this sort of thing?

I desperately need a holiday, any holiday, and I need cheap and cheerful. I can cope with the chance of less than perfect acommodation, and interested in any comments anyone has.

Fankew in advance. :)

i have met people on holiday that have done this and had success in doing so. They got a £400 all inclusive holiday (booked about 10 days before the date) for £99 this was about 4 years ago mind. But i believe there are savings to be made this way. I have always been tempted to do this myself. I do advise going to a larger airport though-more choice of flights. Alot of people seem to be going to Turkey this year- due the exchance rate of the euro being so weak.

Try http://www.teletextholidays.co.uk i got a bargain from there for turkey in may. Also all inclusive may be a good option as it is no longer very cheap to eat out. Good luck

Thanks a lot for the reply.... your friends holiday sounds a bargain! However, I'm wondering if even BETTER deals can be had by taking your suitcase to the airport and being ready to travel there and then?

Will deffo check out Teletest though. Turkey is where we were fancying, mainly because of them not having the Euro, as you pointed out.

Thanks again for the reply!

A friend of mine did that a few years ago. She had three weeks between finishing her old job and starting a new one, and decided on a whim to go away. She just turned up at Glasgow Airport (her local) and took whatever they had. She wanted a fortnight, but the best deal she got was a week in Ibiza for something like £79 self catering, and the accommodation turned out to be brand new, but had not been finished in time to get into the brochures, hence the spare spaces. When she got back to Glasgow a week later, she collected her suitcase, went back to departures and did the same thing again to get her second week in the sun (Kos this time I think, for about the same price)

Personally, I'm far too picky to try this, but I wish I wasn't as it seems a great way to get a real bargain. Go for it!!!

I'm too skint to be choosy, it's either chance it, or camping in Filey!

Cheers though, that's given me hope. I might give it a go. It's just my OH that's a bit nervous about the whole thing. Got to work on him now. :hihi:

Ring this bloke, tell him how much you want to pay when you want to go,and where you would fly from and he will do the rest.

we use him at least twice a year and bang on every time

We always book last minute holidays and have had some good bargains. We booked things the day before online. The best ones won't be until September (until children are back at school) so if you can wait until then, do so. Try the following sites:

http://www.latedeals.co.uk

http://www.teletextholidays.co.uk

http://www.holidaywarehouse.co.uk

or if you fancy staying in a posh villa, try http://www.meonvillas.co.uk - last year we got a £1200 villa with private pool for £400. You'll need to book the flights seperately, but the villas come down in price last minute as they'd rather get a few hundred quid than nothing.

For flights only, try http://www.charterflights.co.uk or Easy Jet or Ryan Air.

Europe is expensive at the moment, due to the exchange rate, so look outside Europe.

Good luck!

Hey

Im looking to go away for a week in about a weeks time, and have been looking at last minute holiday deals. The deals are all pretty bad, and you cant seem to get any last minute bargains online.

Ive heard about people who go to airports and the airport travel agents who sell unsold/cancelled etc holidays for cheap.

Was just wondering if anyone had tried this before, or new of any experiences/had any tips?

Thanks in advance.
