A new charity Cookery book in aid of Osteoporosis

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

Dropping in to let you all know about a new charity cookbook that was just launched by Sheffield based publisher, Pickard Communication.

It's called Sharpe Chefs and was created to aid the National Osteoporosis Society (UK). I am one of more than two dozen women who worked on the book, and we are all very excited to see it reach fruition. As all author royalties will go to the NOS, we are hoping that many people will find a reason to add this book to their collection.

As you might notice from the title, the book is themed around the Sharpe series of books written by Bernard Cornwell and the delightful films based on the series, starring one of Sheffield's sons, Sean Bean.

It includes an endorsement from Sean, as a patron of the NOS, a foreword by Bernard Cornwell, and recipes from all of the "Chosen Men," the producers, and the director of the Sharpe series . . . along with historical information about the Peninsular Wars and the Regency period in England (there are several historian Chefs, myself included), information about the treatment and prevention of Osteoporosis, and another 96 recipes contributed by the Chefs who hail from around the world.

The price for the book is £12.99 and it is available online at:

(OKAY - JUST FOUND OUT I NEED TO POST 5 TIMES BEFORE I CAN TELL YOU WHERE TO GET THE BOOK. sigh )

It is available online through the Pickard Communication website . . *prepares to post five times . . .*

You should also be able to find it soon in some of the local bookshops in Sheffield.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope you will consider buying a copy of the Sharpe Chefs!

I WAS GOING TO SHOW YOU A PICTURE, BUT INSTEAD I'LL POST FIVE TIMES . . .

HMM - post to make five posts . . .! What can I tell you? Let's see - I really do live in Las Vegas, Nevada.

I do not live in a hotel-casino, however, nor do I work in the gaming industry.

I teach history. Sometimes I teach Nevada history and TALK about the gaming industry! :)

Post number three . . .

I'm getting ready to visit England next week - I'll get to celebrate my birthday while I'm there (very nice, I think . . . and no, I'm not going to tell you how old I am).

Post number five -

Well, let's see if it works now!

Nope.

Need one more, apparently!

I like this forum - very nice features. Really. If I hadn't asked the mods first, this would probably deter me from finishing . . . and I suspect it does deter many spammers.

I'm not one - really. A tiny bit strange, perhaps, but not a spammer.

*groan*

Actually they are not recipes for sufferers, but a huge variety of really nice ones that are easy to do.All the photos in the book are taken by us so there is no doctoring in studios!

They make great Christmas presents too .

discdown, any advice on hotels?
