I have to echo HH's post. An awful lot of evidence has to be gathered before anything can be done, even sometimes when one would think that there was enough, there isn't. That is frustrating for all the people that know the person is committing fraud.

Actually, there was no point and no desire to degrade. Maybe a desire to lighten the mood a little. It's called humour by some. I know humour is different, but being able to laugh at oneself is not such a bad thing. If it offends you, then I apologise, but actually, I think they are funny. -
Honey... start one!!!

Be thankful you have a cleavage. With some of us, it could do a lot more damage going southwards!! -
Something like this? What is your criteria of being a 'rattable on' offence?

"Something desirable for comfort or enjoyment but not indispensable" is how the Oxford English Dictionary describes it.

As long as you weren't behind on the bike!!! -
Of course that is not possible but you can know some... particularly if you work with them.

I am afraid in this bit you are not right about me, but then you were not to know that. And as there are arguments for both sides, they cover those that are genuine and those that are not.

I got sent this in an e-mail today... for those who can laugh at themselves! Being British is about driving in a German car to an Irish pub for a Belgian beer, whilst traveling home, grabbing an Indian curry or a Turkish kebab on the way, to sit on Swedish furniture and watch American shows on a Japanese TV. And the most British thing of all? Suspicion of all things foreign! Only in Britain can a pizza get to your house faster than an ambulance. Only in Britain do supermarkets make sick people walk all the way to the back of the shop to get their prescriptions while healthy people can buy cigarettes at the front. Only in Britain do people order double cheeseburgers, large fries and a DIET coke. Only in Britain do banks leave both doors open and chain the pens to the counters. Only in Britain do we leave cars worth thousands of pounds on the drive and lock our junk and cheap lawn mower in the garage. Only in Britain do we use answering machines to screen calls and then have call waiting so we won't miss a call from someone we didn't want to talk to in the first place. Only in Britain are there disabled parking places in front of a skating rink. NOT TO MENTION... 3 Brits die each year testing if a 9v battery works on their tongue. 142 Brits were injured in 1999 by not removing all pins from new shirts. 58 Brits are injured each year by using sharp knives instead of screwdrivers. 31 Brits have died since 1996 by watering their Christmas tree while the fairy lights were plugged in. 19 Brits have died in the last 3 years believing that Christmas decorations were chocolate. British Hospitals reported 4 broken arms last year after Xmas cracker-pulling accidents. 18 Brits had serious burns in 2000 trying on a new jumper with a lit cigarette in their mouth. A massive 543 Brits were admitted to A&E in the last two years after trying to open bottles of beer with their teeth. 5 Brits were injured last year in accidents involving out-of-control Scalextric cars. And finally... In 2000 eight Brits were admitted to hospital with fractured skulls incurred whilst throwing up into the toilet. Doesn't it make you just proud to be British!!! -

Whoo Hoo... six posts! A record?????? -
OK, I hope I am not going to regret this. This is how I see it. Not saying I am right, but this is how I see it. There are some people who sign, on who genuinely cannot get work. Some are just out of school or college and employers won't give them a chance because they have no experience. They don't want to take the time to train them. (They want to get someone who has 'five' years' experience and still pay them minimum wage.) And how, pray, are they to get any if they can't get an employer to take them on. Some have issues which need help, but have not had any help to sort it out. They have confidence problems, family problems and need nurturing but there are too few people to help them, even when they want help. Some are more 'mature' people who have found themselves out of a job and despite the ageism laws, they still get discriminated against... but hey, they have the experience so what's the problem there? Well, they would need to be paid more for their experience. Some have been made redundant after years in the same job or field and for the reason above, can't get back in to work. Now these people need to train, but funding has been cut on training so they can't, in a lot of cases. Some have been genuinely sick and need to change their job as the problem they had makes it impossible for them to continue in their old job. Some have mortgages so big that they could not live and pay it on the wages they would now be offered. They do not want to lose their family home and so are in a mortgage trap. Remember in most cases these people have not made themselves out of work voluntarily. Some single parents (both male and female) find themselves in a situation where they are wanting to stay with the children for a few years until they go to school and then find some work. Many are single parents, not through choice, but as a result of a marriage or relationship break -up and I'll qualify what I mean later) There is a system there for them to have financial help with childcare should they need it, but often it means that it would not be worth it for them to work financially until they could do more hours. Maybe they could go to work for pride, but when that pride is making them worn out, trying to work and run the home and kids single handed, maybe £10 extra doesn't look that proud after all. (And just a point, I am not a single parent and kids are hard enough for two of us! ) Then there is the other side of the coin............. Some young people do not want to work. They want wages totally unrealistic for the level of expertise of anything they can do. Either they are second or third generation signers, or their parents pay for them and indulge them and they see the JSA as spending money. They have no idea of the work ethics. Of getting up in the morning, calling in to an employer if you are off sick They do not realise that benefit is there if you CANNOT find a job, not if you WILL NOT. Some are on drugs and have anger management problems. If they want help they can maybe get some, but some do not seem to want to change, despite anyone's best efforts. Some more mature people are coasting towards retirement. Their mortgages are paid off and they really don't want to do any more than a nice little part time job that doesn't pay enough to pay their stamp. Hence they will sign on just for that. Some people sign on sick and have businesses of their own, many advertised on the Internet. They can sometimes even hold responsible positions in the community and carry on committing benefit fraud. Some people who claim to be single parents, miraculously have more children! Yet they are still not living with anyone or have a partner. Yes they may well be living at home, but the expectation is still there that it is ok to have more children and let the state pay for them.( And please be assured that most of these are good parents.) So there you have it. Two sides of the coins. I think what I am trying to say is that each case needs to be looked at individually. If indeed someone is fraudulent and this is why they are enjoying more 'luxuries' than is deemed appropriate, I am afraid the only thing to do is to report them. I know it sounds harsh, but it is the only way it has a chance of being stopped. Whether one blames the government or anyone else, fraud is fraud. However, many people on benefits, would rather not be there if they could get off and still be ok. I am sorry this has become a thesis... it just sort of grew that way!!!

CloudyBay thank you. A really enlightening post.

I adore Peter Kay. I watched all his DVDs and to be honest, he makes my side hurt with laughing. The stupidest joke made my husband crack up.... "what does a donkey on Blackpool beach get for lunch? 1/2 an hour!" that was it!!!
