565 yards for sale

Recommended Posts

I was out on my bike today and headed towards the Peak District.

On my travels I saw a couple of small plaques staked in the ground.

One at High Bradfield ( Ughill RD ) and another at Stanage Moor.

Both saying 550 and 565 yards for sale.

Is our countryside being sold off or what.

Whats the reason behind this.

What in the middle of Stanage Moor, theres nothing but sheep for miles.

The one at Stanage is just past the cattle grid going away from Sheffield at the bottom of the rough trail, if that helps.

The one at Bradfield is turn left at the Plough pub, go up the hill to the top and turn right past the monument and keep going and its on the left.

Thanks.

I'll go and have a look as this has intrigued me.

The number could just refer to a lot number in an auction and it could be the land being sold or some rights over it e.g. grazing, shooting.

Other possibilities, without looking at location etc., could be:

Fishing rights (length of riverbank/waterside)

Grazing (but doesn't sound right as 500 sqare yards is nothing)

Timber (cubic yards) standing or felled.

I've just found this on:

http://srch.hlc-s.co.uk/pages.asp?group=elsh&ref=BR100847&page=template1

****************

For Sale in the region of £25,000 - Sale Agreed

An attractively located grazing field, approximately 1.6 acres or thereabouts.

• Road access to Windy Bank

• Provisional approval granted for a caravan/camping ground

***************

DIRECTIONS. Approaching Low Bradfield from the direction of Sheffield on Loxley Road, continue to the T-junction with The Plough public house on the left hand side. Turn right towards Low Bradfield and continue up the hill instead of turning right into the village. Turn right into Windy Bank and the land will be found on the left hand side.

****************

Sound about right?

I'd guess that the 565 Yards is the distance of the road and sign to the field.

I get good at this sometimes!!

Wow, If thats right Its unbelievable.

These spots are a place of beauty and cannot see they would put caravans in these locations.

Next time I pass which will be Monday I will look into it.
