  1. Yes you can go that way. Off Park Square, you turn onto Broad Street West, up to the bottom of Dixon Lane where you go left again onto Shude Hill past the Ibis and under the bridge when it then becomes Pond Street. https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.3830519,-1.4625636,19z
  2. Not really sure about starting a new thread, but Bill Cosby's just got 10 years!
  3. I would assume that she had reached the point of needing a level of care that he was unable to provide on his own and they could only afford to pay for residential care by selling up. The option that would appear to have been impractical, could have been to use the proceeds of sale to provide accommodation with one of the children (extension, new house etc.). It is interesting that, as a society, we seem more and more to be reluctant to expect any care from our offspring.
  4. They have already sold and are living in the care home of their choice. At their own expense.
  5. Phoenix and Florida are still increasing in population. Phoenix was 2nd in the list of fastest growing cities last year. Phoenix does not have the water supplies to sustain these levels of growth and will have serious issues. Population increase in Florida is pushing more and more development onto the lower-lying coastal areas that are prone to flooding. Those with the money buy on higher ground, but we can see similar patterns in the UK. Even here in Sheffield people will tell you that some new developments will flood.
  6. If I've read it correctly, it is all about what might happen when their funds reach the threshold. Currently, they are self-financing. https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/couple-who-been-together-70-15182831
  7. ..... and yet another consultation in 2018. £230million is being sought from Westminster to provide new rolling stock and replace infrastructure. As part of this, your views are being requested: SYPTE: http://www.sypte.co.uk/Media.aspx?id=5940 SURVEY: https://www.surveygizmo.eu/s3/90074191/Mass-Transit-Questionnaire YORKSHIRE POST: https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/news/sheffield-supertram-network-could-be-closed-forever-unless-bosses-raise-230million-from-government-1-9364608 .... 8. Figures suggest that the fees at this care home are nearly double the national average. The reported council offered contribution in this case appears to be around the national average. Should this couple be looking at cheaper alternatives?

  10. The marriage is still legal, but making a false declaration to the registrar is an offence under the Perjury Act.

  12. Totley puts a spanner in the accuracy of the clean split.
  13. Someone quoted the Highway Code to suggest that it proved that filtering between cars and the kerb is legal. It doesn't and that is what I am saying. It is only an interpretation. Not proof. Slower speeds are safer. What is being said is that there are situations, usually to do with speed and nippiness of the cyclist, when a driver can check, see it is clear and then manoeuvre to find that there is now a cyclist hanging on his door handle.
  14. Nothing in the highway code says that filtering by cyclists alongside a car that is occupying a lane is legal. What it does do is advise drivers to watch out for this hazardous activity.
  15. PledgeMusic is a UK company: *Contacting PledgeMusic: If you have any questions about this privacy policy, please contact us. You may also reach us by mail at “Pledge Music, 22 Endell Street, Covent Garden, London, WC2H 9AD When placing an order, it clearly asks destination and quotes delivery charges after that.
  16. Cycle filtering (undertaking) is inherently dangerous. The claim that it is "legal" is only by interpretation of highway code and regulations that were written for cars in lanes. The responsibility is shared by both the motorist, who by law must check that it is safe before moving off or manoeuvring, and the cyclist who should not nip about at unsafe speeds that could put themselves at risk by understanding that there can be a gap between a motorist seeing all is clear in their mirrors and actually moving off. Is it not unreasonable, if cars are expected to give 1.5m clearance when overtaking a cyclist, to suggest that undertaking filterers should only do so if there is a space of at least 1.5m to do so?
  17. ... and so it begins ..... https://www.thestar.co.uk/news/woman-killed-in-motorway-collision-near-sheffield-after-getting-out-of-broken-down-car-1-9341657
  18. Read again what I posted and stop being disingenuous. You implied that the transport network has nothing to do with the Council. That is rubbish. The Council appoints elected members to the Combined Authority Transport Committee (along with Councillors from other member South Yorkshire authorities) to whom SYPTE are responsible.
  19. That is a bit disingenuous. SYPTE is responsible to the Combined Authority Transport Committee which is made up of elected Councillors.
  20. I don't think they conflict. Rather, they are complementary. The law says that you should not dazzle. It is just another law that is not enforced.
  21. For years now, Ryanair have claimed to accept debit cards, but in reality, limit those to a few that are unobtainable.
  22. I tend to keep anything that I may need as proof of purchase in the event of an insurance claim, etc. Otherwise, 2 years max.
  23. Law says that you must use lights when visibility is seriously reduced. Guidelines indicate that this can be interpreted as less than 100m.
