  1. No I had to wait until the 70's to see them. I think I saw them at the Fiesta and then at the city hall. I love the four tops, they were my favourite out of all the motown bands. I wish I could turn back the clock and re live those days again.
  2. Yes we did. We also used to go to a disco at the Cutlers hall on a Saturday night. There used to be 2 "gogo dancers" on the stage and I always wanted to be one of them. I loved dancing to all the motown classics (still do actually but only in the kitchen). Did you live in Stannington? My best friend was Andrea Woodcock and we used to hang around with Tina and Vicky Metcalfe who were cousins with the Metcalfe twins who started the Arc originally.
  3. Oh the good nights we used to have in the Ark on Friday and Saturday nights. We were still at school (Myers Grove) but we used to look forward to it all week. We all used to get on the bus from Stannington and dance the night away to all our favourite motown tunes, and then back home again on the 10.0 clock bus. I remember once they had an "all nighter" and we all told our parents we were sleeping at each others houses so we could go. We never got found out though, such fantastic happy days and brilliant music.
  4. I have pm'd you Hillsbro, ignore my previous post. ---------- Post added 08-12-2012 at 16:08 ---------- Thanks for that, I will let you know what happens.
  5. Hi Sarah, both me and my husband were mods in the 60's and were both well into the music scene. Pm me if you want anymore info
  6. Hi there, I wonder if anyone has any information about an old friend who I used to live near in the 1960's. We both lived on Fairbarn Way at Stannington. and we both attended Myers Grove school. Maureen emigrated to Australia about 1970 I think. She had 2 sisters who were called Linda and Kathleen who were both out in Australia when she went out there. She did come back in the early 70's and she was married with 2 children but I have forgotton her married name. I haven't heard anything of her since. I would love to make contact with her again if anyone can help. Many thanks
  7. I put lots of nuts and fat balls out for the birds, but I dont know if its because I live near to town but the only birds we get are sparrows and pigeons with the odd robin now and then. I would love to attract more but I dont know what else to do.
  8. When I went to the GP he said that it wasn't hormonal and nothing to do with the menopause. I have spoken to a friend today who has similar sweats and her GP told her it was old person sweats and she's only 60! What is classed as an old person I ask myself. Anyway it is absolutely awful having to go through this several times a day, I wish I could get it sorted but apart from stopping the tablets I cant see an answer.
  9. Does anyone who takes Citalopram suffer from excess sweating especially around the face and neck? I have being trying to find out what is causing it and I think it must be these as the other drugs I take dont give sweating as a side effect. I would be glad of any help on how to stop the sweating. Would changing the tablets be an idea?
  10. Yes a strange reaction because the implication was that I didnt like it because of something to do with what the building stands for and not just because I dont like it.
  11. Thank you bypass blade. I thought we lived in a society where freedom of speech was the order of the day. I am entitled to my opinion so are you Wasseem 3007. I thought it was a discussion about which buildings we would knock down, it has nothing to do with religion so get over yourself.
  12. I agree the staff are very nice and friendly, it just takes a little time to get them to serve you instead of chattering among themselves. I have never had a problem with the food, its always been really nice, and the portions are more than generous.
  13. My daughter got married there and it was a fantastic day. The staff could not do enough for us and the photographs were brilliant especially the ones in the magnificent staircase. Go for it I say, you wont regret it
  14. The girls in Shoreham Street Post Office are brilliant. They are always ready to help and have always got a smile and a greeting for you no matter when you go in. I dont think it's just post offices, I think if those people worked anywhere they would be the same, just miserable buggers.
  15. Well said borick, I couldn't agree more. Just to throw something else into the mix, in Australia you buy tickets at newsagents, post offices, shops etc and then just put them through a machine like on the underground. That means the driver has hardly anything to do except concentrate on driving and wishing everyone G'day.
  16. I have lived in the Heeley area for 38 years and apart from the odd incident, I have never had a problem. The people are friendly and will make you welcome I'm sure.
  17. Just a thought, if everyone had the correct money, wouldn't the journey be a lot quicker? As I say, just a thought.
  18. Sorry I'm afraid I have a very large garden and I try to keep it nice and tidy so I don't have time to do anyone else's. I fully appreciate its not always a priority when you have children and work etc., its not a criticism of anyone it just makes me sad to see our areas so dirty and unkempt
  19. Along the road in question the ones that are kept trimmed are from the older age group so there is no need for me to go and offer to cut theirs as well as my own. Its all a question of having pride in your home and the reason why half of Sheffield is like a ghetto!!
  20. You could come along our street when it does stop raining and try it out. You could do the whole street in one go!!
  21. Ok I accept that excuse especially if you work and only have the weekends and evenings to do it, but some of these people near me are in all day, so no excuse I say.
  22. I have walked along our street today and the hedges at the front of the houses are completely out of control. Some of them are right up past their front windows and it must be incredibly dark inside they must need to have the lights on permanently. Why cant people keep them under control? You can buy cheap shears or hedgecutters these days and if you keep doing it regularly then it doesn't get out of control. It makes the area look very down trodden and unkempt, not a good look at all. Come on all you householders get out there and take a bit of pride in your homes.
  23. There used to be a van in Chapletown market that sold delicious warm pork pies, dont know who made them though but if I did I would go right now and buy one. This thread is making me hungry!
