  1. The "improvements" were only finished last year, my original post was dated May 14, 2018 I posted that after seeing two "near misses" and debris (from an earlier accident) at the side of the road The crossing had only just been installed at that time.
  2. I posted this over a year ago. It would seem that someone at the planning office agreed with my observations as they altered the plain green lenses to green filter arrow lenses pointing west. I know it is ultimately the fault of the drivers misunderstanding the signals but surely one of the objectives of road safety is to remove, as far as possible, the chance of human error. The crossing is in the wrong place,it needs to be away from the junction to remove doubt
  3. I was queuing in traffic caused by yet another collision at this"safer" junction , Thursday July 25th @ 7:55 am This time between a van and a motor scooter . Thankfully the scooter rider was walking and talking How many more do I have to see ?
  4. Hi Bassett one I posted this back in May after seeing a number of near misses, it looks like the powers that be, may have agreed with me as they altered the plain green lenses to green filter arrows all pointing ahead (west) https://www.sheffieldforum.co.uk/showthread.php?t=1542330
  5. Another accident at this "safer" junction Friday 21st September @ 7:50am.
  6. The new pedestrian crossing just placed yards west of the top of Greenhill Avenue is just plain dangerous, cars approaching it from the newly "improved" roundabout see three green lights and appear to think the lights are controlling traffic at the junction and that the furthest right of the green lights, gives them the OK to turn right on to Greenhill Avenue. This is not the case. These Lights are just for the crossing. As a result the traffic traveling east also see green lights (assuming no one is crossing). The debris around the junction suggest this warning has come too late for some but please be aware. Do the goons who plan these "safety improvements" actually hang around to see the near miss incidents they cause ?
  7. Chalk up one more rear end shunt at this "safer" junction, this one occurred Tuesday 13th Mar 7:55 am
  8. I have always thought the solution to the car/cycle cohabitation is blindingly obvious without the need to spend ever increasing amounts of money on ironically named "road improvements". Use the pavements as cycle lanes, I used this "revolutionary" solution all throughout my youth without harm to myself or other users and if anything the pavements are now less populated as more people tend to drive these days. a few tweaks to legislation and away we go. Cyclists use them all the time now mainly because they are SAFER and they go where they need to go,unlike most cycle lanes. I can see the risk assessment crew will most likely think I'm bonkers but think about it, where lies the bigger risk ?, many heavy fast moving objects mixing with lightly protected slower vehicles on busy roads against much fewer lightly protected vehicles mixing with pedestrians on sparsely populated footpaths. Check your route to work tomorrow see how many miles of pavement you can see that are not being used. The only difference is the onus of care moves more heavily onto the cyclists and may require them to have third party insurance.
  9. Chalk up one more rear end shunt at this "safer" junction, this one occurred Thursday 8th Nov 7:55 am. Bear in mind I am one man passing through this junction perhaps once or twice a day and I have seen multiple accidents so over the other 23hrs 50 min a day I am not there, how many accidents have there been in total ? Perhaps Its time for SCC to admit, once again, they have wasted a shed load of money and have got it wrong. Heaven help us if the crash for cash mob get wind of this lunacy
  10. Another two drivers exchanging details this morning. Chalk one more up.
  11. Are you suggesting it could be the milking of well intended schemes by folk with no scruples and that it is nothing to do with Brexit and has been going on for years ?
  12. I Think your memory may be playing tricks with you. I believe "Mine Hosts" when it closed, were Vern & Wyn Hookway . Last I heard, the Robert Neil building was owned by Edmundson Electrical.
  13. Went past another rear end shunt accident on this new "safer" junction on Saturday afternoon (20th). Watching Buses exit Lowedges Road is a farce. It really is a step backwards regarding regarding road safety. I never had/saw any problem under the old system and I have lived on the estate a good number of years ( Even before Chesterfield Rd was a dual carriageway). I am aware of more than one fatal incident that has happened near the gap to enter Lowedges Rd from Chesterfield Road South but those who know best never saw fit to close that gap for some reason. I would be interested to know the vehicle/bicycle ratio using Chesterfield Road South Northbound
  14. Hi All, Just a quick update, after close on 5 weeks, my practice have finally held a meeting addressing the will they , wont they, sign issue and have informed me of their decision NOT to sign the required form, reason given. They don't have to !!! On the plus side I was given the name of a private GP willing to examine and certify me. 24 hrs later, after being given a refreshing choice of appointment slots, I am now examined and certified fit for one so elderly although £80 (Sadly not lbs) lighter, I finally have the thumbs up to make the jump on the 28th July. I am now 5 weeks behind in a quest to recruit sponsors so if anyone out there would like to help me make up for lost time, please take a minute to visit the link in post # 1 and help me to help a very worthy cause. Thank you for listening to my gripe.
  15. Hi Thanks for the suggestions, it looks like I will have to contact the BPA to see if they can point me in the right direction. This is the form Form F115 (Top One) It doesn't look like a buck pass to my untrained eye. I would think its like an MOT its only a valid document on the day issued. Barefooter, I think the under 40s sign a self certify form on the day (If I have read it correctly) I am happy to state on a public forum, that if I die, I won't ring injurylawyers4u , Seriously I'm from that era where when you have tripped over something, you should have looked where you were going. Maccapacca At the ripe old age of 56 I have been hospitalised overnight just once (Tonsils out aged 10) Come August, I will have been working & paying NI contributions for 41 years. I have been told part of the problem is that I haven't visited the surgery much so they don't have recent data. I am happy to work with an 89% risk of success. Its the 1 in 175 main chute malfunctions statistic that I heard on Calender recently, that has raised my eybrows the most.
  16. Yeah - Great Idea, We could fit it where the pointless post button used to be, before it wore out
  17. Thanks for your good wishes Bludragonfly, One thing about being an old timer is my reticence to bother a doctor over a non-urgent, non-medical problem. As you will see from the charity I am supporting I have nothing but admiration for the medical profession. The practice I am with is the result of two merged practices and I fear I may have become a bit of a political/procedural football which I think might explain the conflicting advice from the front desk. I don't want to turn this into an appointment gripe free-for-all I just want a little common sense to prevail and above all I want to raise money for a cause I care passionately about. If I am reading the form correctly it is a kind of self certification that is confirmed by a GP with access to my records or after an examination that I would willingly pay for, but I haven't got a month to wait for an appointment
  18. Hi I am hoping there is someone out there who can help or advise me. I am wanting to do a Tandem sky-dive for Charity (That has helped and continues to help a young Sheffield family) Problem is, as I am the shockingly advanced age of 56, I need a Declaration of fitness form stamping and signing before I can Jump. The form lists a number of medical conditions, all of which I have had the good fortune to avoid so no problem I thought. I submitted the form to my GP (well receptionist, who said no problem call back in a couple of days, and added, the doctor has in the past, waived any fee if it was for a good cause) great I thought, more money can go to the charity. Long story short, TWO WEEKS down the line, after being told four different things by four different receptionist and trying unsuccessfully to book an appointment to see my GP. I am told they do not have procedure in place to deal with such requests BUT they will bring it up at the next meeting, and I have been told it will need a double appointment time slot that would be considered a Private (Not NHS) case. I have not named the practise as it wouldn't help the situation in any way I do not expect the service to be free I am happy to pay for their time I just need it resolving so I can start arranging sponsors. Link to sponsor Page NB I am posting this link so you can see the cause is a worthy one, I am not asking for sponsors yet because without a signed form the jump will not take place. If anyone can help or suggest a solution Please let me know

  24. Hi This entry from http://www.sheffieldindexers.com looks like it could be your man CLARK, William Hy (Labourer, age 58 ) Died at 19 Christchurch Rd; Buried on December 13, 1940 in Consecrated ground; Grave Number 2930, Section JJ of Burngreave Cemetery, Sheffield. Parent or Next of Kin if Available: . Remarks: Officiating Minister: Richard Halliwell: Removed from Sheffield Parish.
  25. Hi It is quite possible that Nellie never married, the death certficate might give more information by way of informant but if it is not a relative the date of birth ( if given accurately) may be the only clue but you would need the birth certificate to confirm that exactly too. There may be an obituary in local papers or even a will, another lead may come by tracing her mothers history
