  1. Thanks for all your replies, they certainly broaden my knowledge on the many posible reasons behind budiness closures around our city.
  2. Hi, has anyone noticed the rate at which small businesses, mostly newly opened shops about 2-3yrs old have closed down since the Brexit vote? I can't help but notice that most of the Polish owned shops in particular have shut down and Abbey dale Rd is beginning to look like a ghost town again. Does anybody know why is the sudden closures happening?
  3. If its a scam, then the DVLA is involved because the clampers confirmed that they have had too many cars falsely clamped as a result of the information that they have been given i.e. the camera's in their vans. they concede that judging by their past experiences since the switch over of road tax discs that the system is not working properly. You might think its Chinese whispers, but I witnessed the saga and I'm shocked by what has happened and as a fellow motorist I'm now questioning how safe any of us are with our parked cars?
  4. Update on yesterday's clamped cars in my street. The car owners phoned the DVLA and complained. Motorists demanded that the DVLA should unclamp their vehicle immediately but the DVLA said that the clampers are now off duty but if motorist paid the money the clamping will be removed. Things got heated when the owners threatened to call the media, then the DVLA backed down and promised to send the clampers in the morning. And hey presto, this morning the clampers arrived to find the cars with printed stickers that denounced the clamping and calling the clampers names. The two man apologised profusely and explained that it was DVLA's three electronic system of checking tax evaders that was at fault. Apparently all three DVLA systems have recorded that payment for the road tax was cancelled by the banks. What a load of rubbish talk is that!! Thanks for all the communities replies in support.
  5. Thanks for the advice about calling police, and the use of the word "racketering" in relation to the DVLA clamping practice would have never entered my mind until you mentioned it. I shall pass the knowledge on to the victimised motorist and all my friends.
  6. DVLA vans are driving around the neighbourhood and mistakenly clamping parked cars for road tax evasion, when the cars are taxed and insured. Release fee of £250.00 is demanded from the mororist even though the car is taxed. This happened on my road this morning. It is rediculous how the new system of road tax is policed.
