You don't say. On the face of it recruitment has been poor, very poor. Who knows, Brewster may  come good next season in the Championship but it struck me as a panic buy. I've nothing to say about the two Derby recruits at £5 million each. I've not seen anything of United this season despite being a season ticket holder, can't watch empty stadiums and canned crowd noise on tv , soul destroying.

We have a paper thin squad and the truth is that the top clubs have lads who don't even make the bench (or only just make the bench) who are better than our first team starters.

It's tough, but that's life.  When we played Arsenal, they brought a player on from the bench, who had cost them 73 million quid and who wasn't even a starter.

We can't compete with that, just a fact of life.

Still too early to tell with Brewster, but we know he can score in the Championship, and after watching "Goals on Quest" most weekends, there is nothing in the Championship stopping us coming straight back up, if we go down.

well if they are LTD,who are the directors? are any of them on the big fish production company? and is the bank the same as the familys? this all could be a huge problem.plus the ground belongs to whoever and well over valued,i went to a match a couple of years ago and there was a big thunderstorm, this made it look weak, tired and old as it was like a sieve in places,it all depends on the family and how much the wish to help,to save face.

DC is the Director, it's just him Bassett.

but and theres  a huge but,is the company limited?,if not its all a personal debt ,and his multi million pound family wont want that i hope?,and if thats so,i think something will be sorted,or hope that is.plus i think the family are not wanting this,so lets hope

Which company Bassett?, the companies by which DC owns SWFC you mean?, they are limited companies, yes.

First the bad part, the third goal made was a good goal but the keeper should have saved it,  and if Jags needed a reason to hang his boots up it was this, he should quit now and save us some money, legend that he is he's doing himself and the club no good.

Overall even though they were far more talented thats obvious  butwe didn't chuck the towel in and  when Mousset  and Brewster came on we had more about us, Burke offers nothing imo, we  need two up front maybe go 4312 with Didsy just behind the front two, on to Brighton

Apart from creating the first goal, due to his pace and body strength, and almost scoring later when his pace put him through and he turned on a sixpence and fired a rocket at Deano from a tight angle.  Sometimes you need pace and power in at least one player, to run at defenders.

It takes an exceptional team to break an all time  record. So well done Blades.

Don't think it will be a record that stands for long mate.  The gulf between the Championship and the Premier League is getting bigger with every season, and not sure anything is going to change that.

The top three of the Championship are the three teams relegated from the Premier League.  The Championship clubs just can't compete.

Officially the worst start to a top flight season in English football history.

You have to be in the top flight to do that though mate, something you don't need to worry about.

Our players actually gave it a go tonight, put two past Man Utd.  They put a shift in, I guess you could say they earned their wages.......

Not sure if its true or not, but I was told the reason DC pays 7k and tops up the wages from his personal funds is to get around UK money transfer laws, which caps how much money a person can transfer into the UK from outside of the EU.

Obviously theres no funds from fans coming in so HE has to pay the wages himself.

I remember China Crisis, good old 80's band from Liverpool!

I don't think there is anything to stop him paying anything into the UK, especially if he does it between companies, and not as an individual, there may be some tax reasons why not, but nothing to stop him sending money to SWFC as a company, or to Sheffield, 3 or Sheffield 4 or whatever company name he trades with these days.

The players would need advice, if the money he is sending privately to them, is to be declared for tax and national insurance purposes.

For me the premiership isn't as great as people make out, always said it wouldn't bother me if Wednesday could yo-yo between the prem and championship so being in your position wouldn't be a big issue to me, that's why I'd keep Wilder whatever happens.

I know you don't think you'd go out of business, I just mean it's not the end of the world financially to drop down. I don't think there is anything seriously wrong at United, it's just getting that one win you need. We all know you over achieved last season, I've always said second season can be more difficult once teams know how you play.

If you are a travelling fan, Nervy, it's not great, I have to admit.

We only got to a couple of away games last season, and that was before Covid stopped live attendances.  Teams like Bournemouth only giving away teams 1200 tickets, or thereabouts.  Brighton were the same.  It was great to get  to a few grounds, but not the same as the Championship,  where we would have an overnight in Preston, or Bristol and enjoy a few beers after the game, without having to rush off.

Edit:  Forgot to add, the money is great for the clubs, so from a business perspective, it is good.

I have no wish to watch my team in the VAR ruined Premier League, I don't call one win in about 15 games successful either.

Agree on VAR. I think it will take a few years for it to slowly, and quietly, be dropped.  Too much egg on face for the powers that be, to hold their hands up and say it was a mistake.

we toyed with the idea to sign marco silva ,but bottled the idea ,he was 1st choice by everyone of the family, but after lots of chats with others  it was decided to go safe and chose tony pullis, todays sun,i believe this, pity i would of gone for marco a young coach, who am i right in saying put most of the everton squad together, but pity

Think you are reading too much into that Bassett, you are trying to make out that Silva was interested but that wasn't the case really.

    "...

ex-Everton boss Silva is among the names touted to candidates to replace Monk at Wednesday.

However, Silva will not take the job at Hillsborough, as the Portuguese is not interested in dropping down to the Championship following a stint in the top flight.

Wednesday, who are currently languishing in 23rd in the league, will now look to rope in their fifth manager in three years to succeed Monk at the club...."

After the first 10mins this game was so one sided it was unreal, Wilders big money signings have flopped and the style of football that served them so well has been nullified, its going to be a long hard season.

Similar to your recent game against Rotherham.

And yes it will be a long hard season for us, no doubt about it, this is the top club league in the world, it's not your Luton's and your Wycombe's that we are playing.

    I’m here all week😀

You’ll be sacking him before the season is through.

Chris Wilder's managerial record speaks for itself.  So does Garry Monk's.

SUFC won't be the one sacking a manager before the season is through.

Marcus has reappeared under another name and is currently writing a book about those times, he also submitted a bunch of pictures to Tony Beesley's book about the Clash - Ignore Alien Orders.

    Hope everyone is well!

Well that should be a book worth reading!, I'll ask Tony about it.

  14. As a kid, Graves Park was one of my stomping grounds, me and my pals were there most weekends (in good weather) and spent most of the school holidays there.  Never saw a rat.

At School, we would run through the park, doing cross country runs in P.E., never saw a rat.

Yeas ago, me and some mates used Graves Park as a practice place for jogging/running, on Sunday mornings, when it was quiet, we would run from the bottom playground (Chesterfield Road end, near the Big Tree pub) up to the boating ponds, around the ponds a few times, up to the Pavilion, and back down to the bottom playground, never saw a rat.

On the last two occasions I was in the park (last  3 -5  years), I saw rats in broad daylight around the boating pond areas, and not just one, quite a few of them.  Also on the path from the boating pond up the Pavilion (the left hand path, as you walk up).

I guess my point is, Covid has nothing to do with this.  There were no sightings back in 70's and 80's, that I ever heard of.  In fact I can't remember anyone ever saying they had seen a rat, in junior or senior school.  People fed the birds and the ducks and threw bread into the fishing ponds, and never saw a rat.  These days though, different matter.

  15. It's been a tough start, no doubt about it.  Egan's crazy red card against Villa didn't help in that game, and losing Jack O'Connell long term, and  Lys Mousset and John Fleck short  to medium term is causing us headaches.  We don't have the strength in depth of other teams (Arsenal bringing on a 70 million quid player, off the bench, a few weeks ago!) and that is just a  fact of life we have to deal with.

I think it will get worse before it gets better, but as Aston Villa know very well, sometimes you just need a bit of luck to stay up in this league.

  16. Now that all this is out in the open, wonder how many still think Mester Chancer is a great bloke who is just badly advised?

Oh, and all my "cut and paste" from the EFL documentation, which is now deleted, you can go and find it if you are really interested.

Not only does it paint SWFC management in a bad light, it shows that even when they are trying to cheat, they still can't get their act together, hence the fact the books are wrong and the time travel back dating had to be attempted! 😄

  19. No one really knows why Port Vale are called Port Vale, but there are two schools of thought, both plausible.

One is that the club was an off shoot of an earlier team called Porthill Victoria (based in Newcastle under Lyme), and from where (apparently) you can see the Valley where the ship canal runs through, with various ports along the route.  The road near to Porthill is called Vale Road.

The other is that the off shoot club met at Port Vale House in Burslem, and formed a club called Burslem Port Vale, which was shortened to Port Vale.
