  1. Owning or using a gun that's classed as illegal under the firearms laws in this country is not a good idea with all this new fuss regarding replicas, air weapons (which paintball guns come under) etc. is a little daft. You could end up in serious trouble and up to five years in prison for having a paintball gun over the legal power limit as daft as it sounds. The US have more relaxed laws than we do, so be careful what you buy and import.
  2. I wonder if that guy knows that the item he's selling is illegal in the UK due to the new firearms regulations? Does look fun though , imagine taking that to a walk on game!
  3. The difference is that I am crap. I have only played a few times and my kits pretty budget too. I can understand that casual players being worried by the thought of someone with their own kit though. Anyone aware of any extremely cheap land for sale (maybe £10 or something )
  4. I visited the dangerzone shop today (bought a few bits) and also discussed their walk on arrangement. You can't use your own stuff on a day to day basis as it upsets other users that think you're a pro with some special weapon etc. but they do a walk on game every second sunday of the month. £50 to take part gets you a days paintballing with your own equipment and 2,000 paintballs. Seems like a good enough deal to me. The last Sunday game (I just missed it ) had 40 players with their own kit, so it sounds like a laugh! It may not be too frequent, but once a month walk on is a good start. If I can find a few more sites then I'll be happy. ps They were extremely friendly and very informative in the shop, so thanks! If anyone can think of any other sites to add to this I would be greatful.
  5. That's why we bought our own kit, we were hoping to play at a cheaper price. I am going to look in to the dangerzone though, there's a couple of posts on other sites referring to this too.
  6. A few of us have been playing paintball on and off for a while and finally went out and bought our own markers (guns). Unlike our first thoughts, they weren't expensive. I found a marker that normally retails around £100 for £35 on the internet (new), new camo overalls for £4 and a mask for £10. So for less than £50 each, we are armed and ready to go. The only problem is that evey site in and around Sheffield doesn't want to allow us to use our own gear! I have looked in to 'walk on' days, which is where sites allow you to turn up with your own kit and play. There are many of these down south, but it appears not too many up here. The average cost for us to play paintball before we bought our kit was about £50 each per day. For about this same price we have our own kit now! The southerners have many places that charge between £10 and £20 for a days access to the site when using your own kit and on most you can take your own paintballs too instead of paying for the overpriced on site ones! WHY CAN'T WE HAVE THIS UP HERE???? Anyway, if you are a paintballer and know where a group of lads can join in with their own kit then please let me know. We prefer the woodland stuff or similar games, not the inflatable speedball / competition stuff, but are open to most game types. Our skill level is definately amateur / cannon fodder, so please make me happy and let me know if you've found somewhere to play paintball? (official or unnoficial) I don't want to break the law, but if you know of any fields or woodland or anything where people play then this is also something we would be looking for. Thanks
  7. Surely you do not refer to the silver plant pots with seats on? There's a lecturer at Chesterfield College that put a lot of thought in to those and I for one think they were worth it. Fair enough the scrubbers selling mobile parts and flashing sticks need removing as do the clipboard people, but that's just because they annoy me. (not necaserily correct, just my view;) )
  8. Agreed! Especially the Yorkshire Traction busses who's driver's seem to be violent. I witnessed one of them verbally abusing another car driver the other week in the middle of the road. The busses are uncomfy, often dirty and late and also crammed like the trains you see on far away programs (with people, geese and sheep holding on to the roof of the vehicle etc. ) It would be quite a small bar if planted there and much better for us as a car park, although I can see that the bar would make more money. Having said that, there's already Matrix, Stardust, Empire (avoid) and a couple of others directly in that area, do we need another bar right there? I admit Sheffield night life DOES need spicing up a little, but let's move it away from that area and spread it out a little. I have seen some very 'very unfit to be mothers' like people doing this. Standard issue seems to be burbury (as you mention) as well as Kappa and a fag. No wonder kids are turning out as they are with mothers like these, but that's a different issue... Division Street is excellent. It's got a nice clean feel to it, decent enough shops (although there are a couple of snotty ones) and the bars are pretty good too. It also appears that the bouncers used on Division Street at places like the Forum, Halcyon and Vodka Revolution (gotta love that place) are a lot better and friendlier than those in other places around Sheffield.
  9. The one I signed was in Chocolate Bar on Ecclesall Road. Not sure who's in charge of it all though.
  10. If you are unhappy with the way you have been treated by an officer then you are able to take his / her number and make a complaint against him / her. If it is found that you have been mistreated then action will be taken against the officer in question. If a member of your family is assaulted then you should inform the Police. Attacking the people you believe to be the attackers would be a criminal offence in the exact same way their attack against your family member is. Taking the law in to your own hands in a vigilante style is never an answer and may end up with you yourself facing prosecution. You are permitted to come to the aid of someone being assualted if you witness this in progress. This doesn't mean you can 'attack' the attacker, but you may use reasonable force to stop the attack taking place. This is dodgey ground though, so in these situations it's better to let the Police handle it. Scanners are legal as long as they are used for legal activities. Listening to Police frequencies is not legal but is very hard to catch and prove. The people in your area using scanners shouldn't stop you from calling the Police if a crime is taking place though. Unless you are using mobile or cordless telephones and the people with the scanners are monitoring all frequencies 24/7 then you shouldn't be at too great a risk of being listened in on. You can also report crimes to the Police anonymously or via crime stoppers or at a Police station. This is illegal, but if the Police aren't made aware of this then they stand less chance of catching those responsible. The best way to deal with this would be to take details of the van such as times of delivery, number plate, people involved etc. The more information the better. BUT BE CAREFUL! If the Police are provided with this information they will take action which may lead to the arrest of the people involved or further investigation, which again would lead to their arrest. You ARE backed up like that. The Police are here for you as a member of the public just as much as they are here for their collegue in the situation you gave as an example. It sounds like you are facing many troubles, caused by people who sound quite intimidating and dangerous, but the only way these people will be stopped is if people like yourself and the community around you work with the Police. If this happens the Police are a lot stronger and able to offer a better service to you and remove people like this from the street. tombodojoj, you sound like you are angry with the Police because they appear to be failing you, but if you speak to them they will listen and help.
  11. Just for information, Woodseats junior school used to run a day course for adult cookery lessons. This was about 20 years ago, but they may still do it.
  12. What's the point in shopping in Sheffield City Centre?? The roads in to the centre are being destoyed in the council's 'destroy every car' programme. If you do manage to get in to town then the parking's expensive, IF you can find an empty spot. And public transport sucks big time! Anyone remember when a news team took a Sheffield family on the bus and in the car? The cost of the bus was more, the time was hours longer and they are always rammed in Sheffield. There's a car park by the firestation that's had half of it closed off, what's with that? It's been blocked off for years, does anyone know why? It's an excellently situated car park too. Or is this part of Sheffield City Council's anti car move again? When free parking, easier road access and sheltered shopping is availalable at Meadowhall, why bother with Town? At least in Meadowhall I can drive there easily without crappy one way systems and closed roads. When I am there I am dry and it's not normally too busy unless close to Christmas. There's no chance of being hassled by some idiot with a clipboard and there's also less chance of becoming a victim of crime (can still happen, but more chance in town). The only time I go in to town these days is for the clubs and bars at night and occasionaly Division Street shops which can be an arse to get to, but at least they are worth the effort.
  13. There is a brand new library opening shortly where the old one used to be on Eccelsall Road, just up from the church and grave yard. I think it was built by yet another company knocking up so called designer flats in the area as part of their terms and conditions for planning permision there. Looks to be a nice modern looking building though, hopefuly the inside will be good too with good facilities, internet access and of course books.
  14. Surely the idea of a forum is for us all to discuss matters that we are interested and concerned about? Fair enough, the autorities do have a better idea of cover required than the every day person in the street, but they also have budgets to make use of and if they find a way to cut corners they often do, even at the public's expense. The Ringinglow firestation is offering a service to those in the area that if it's moved will not be as efficient to the locals as it was. In other words if the firestation is removed then the response time to save someone from a burning building will increase for those people in the immediate area. The time it takes to get an engine and crew to that building may still be under the 'acceptable times' as set by someone along the line, but in most cases of a house fire fatalities are prevented by a quick response. So where someone could be saved at the moment by the firestation providing a 5 minute response because it's local to them, they may not be so lucky when the next nearest firestation takes 10 minutes to respond because it's further away. This is just a thought, but I can see why the people living local to this station may be concerned. In effect this is reducing the level of cover they have from the fire service. Fair enough they still have cover, but overall it will take longer to arrive should the Ringinglow station be closed. There are many ways a fire can start, taking fire safety seriously is nothing to mock and the fact that these people are concerned is good. Hopefully it means they have been responsible in their fire prevention and that they may not suffer the misfortune of being caught in a house fire.
  15. We went to the Vietnamese Noodle Bar the other week after hearing how good it was and were only met by dissapointment! The service was very poor, the young guy who served us was very rude and never smiled and at one point even took my girlfriends meal before she had finished eating it! (she still had the chopsticks working around the chicken!). We have spoken to friends about this guy and aparantly he' like this often, so if you do go and this guy server you, swap tables to get someone else. The food was nice, but avoid the squid dish, this gave me major upset stomach! Overall, an average place to eat but avoid the moody kid and squid!
