  1. I was in a team that opened it from Christ Church Youth Club we called ourselves The Choppers!!

I remember killer and boggy I used to knock about with Roggert, after allnighters at the Mojo we allways ended up at bowling alley!

I used to bowl in one of the leagues there and one night a week it was free bowling down an empty lane.

There was a pinball machine that we burnt a hole through to the replay counter and we then just clicked how many games we wanted to play!!

Loved to see all scooters there, also did aspirin and coke work or was it in our minds after french blues or black bombers!!

  2. Just got back from Levkas ,an island up from Cephlonia.Had a great time people very friendly.Used ATM for monies no commision got 1.12 euros happy with that.

Couldn't get beer (amstel) less than 2.5 euros but every bar gave you a snack with your beer( popcorn crisps ,apple dusted in cinnammon, tuna olives cucumber, even sausage and egg)

Meals varied from 30 to 40 euros a night but included 1 litre of house wine this was for two. Best value were gyros at 2 euros each yum yum.

Ouzo 2 euros breakfast without tea was 5.99 euros.

    Hope this helps .

  4. HI

I dont know whether you are right or wrong but what is recovered beer? (a toilet sprung to mined)

    My Bold

Recovered beer is returned beer from pubs, first draw on conditioned beer, bottles that are out of date and bottoms of tanks.

I made up thousands of gallons of Jubilee and the formula if I remember was -6000 gallons Jubilee consisted of 4000 brewed Stout 1200 recovered beer and 800 sugar additives.

There did use to be milk in it as cows used to be kept on the field at Claywheels Lane just for this.Or so I was told !!One old worker Cliff White allegedly limped because the bull or cow had hit him !!

  5. Sheffield used to be the home of Milk Stout.

Jubilee Milk Stout brewed at Bass on Claywheels Lane,Mackeson brewed at Tennants on Lady's Bridge.

Both great drinks thanks partially to CAMRA no more (Beer Orders 1989)

Mackeson still available but not a patch on what it used to be .

By the way stouts used to contain about a fifth of recovered beer !!

  6. Lets hope we have been paid in full Andy even if its gone to pay off debt because when they go down, get sued over the Olympic Stadium ownership etc there will be nowt left for the big bad Blades :hihi::hihi:

This is from Nov 2010 accounts

on 9 November 2010, Sheffield United Football Club Limited raised a £15.5m loan from Santander secured on the future receipts from West Ham United in respect of the Tevez case. This debt will be repaid as the Tevez money is received over the next three years.

£4 million of this debt was used to repay part of the Hotel debt, reducing the net liabilities in that company. Following this repayment, Sheffield United (Hotel) Limited was sold to Scarborough Partnership Limited for a consideration of £1. Scarborough Partnership Limited have assumed responsibility for the remaining Hotel debt.

The rest of the proceeds from Santander have been used to repay all of the remaining debt from HBOS and for working capital purposes. As part of the refinancing all the securities held by HBOS have been released. All of the assets of the Group, other than the West Ham United debtor in respect of Tevez, are therefore unencumbered.

A Hotel for £1, bargain for Who!

  7. I was listening to the top guy at CAMRA on Radio Sheffield this morning talking about why pubs are closing.

I still think the main reason is cheap supermarket booze and Sky.

People's idea of a Saturday night out has changed, these days they'd rather sit at home watching live sport on Sky and drinking their Stella from Tesco that's cost £0.80/pint, rather than the £2.00+ charged in pubs.

I believe to stop the binge drinking and also help the pubs the cheap deals at supermarkets should be stopped.....Make it a minimum of £1.25/pint, rather than the £0.60 Tesco were charging last week for Tetleys.

I say this as someone who takes advantage of the supermarket offers, but also gets out once a week for a few real ales in the pub.

    Regards

    Doom

This makes me laugh when CAMRA are partly responsible for pubs closing down.Due to them backing the beer orders in 1990 and stopping breweries owning pubs.Breweries wouldn't sell to supermarkets that cheap because it would ruin THEIR pubs now they don't own pubs and only sell beer to whoever.

The smaller pubs were subsidised by the larger pubs just so long as they sold a couple of barrels the brewery was happy.

CAMRA should hang their head in shame especially in Sheffield where 4 large breweries shut down due to them putting hundreds out of work !

  8. The same gang were walking up Halifax Rd about 10.0.clock eating chips or whatever!! They then stood outside Dominoes Pizza banging on the windows and that kid in white was mooning at the young girls in there. They then went inside two of them but ran out when a delivery driver appeared.By the way I was stood at the bus stop opposite.

I would imagine that they could be on the shop's CCTV.

  9. I remember Ike and Tina Turner at the Mojo and could you please confirm my memory!! Was there a bomb scare that night and we were all glad to get outside for a bit of fresh air?

I bet that house on burngreave rd was glad when the Mojo shut cos everytime there was an allnighter on she had her orange juice pinched!!

That was when we walked down to the bowling alley for a couple of aspirins and coke.

One of my most memorable turns was Georgie Fame also Graham Bond Organization with Ginger Baker on drums .Great times can never be replaced but wish we could live them again!!

  10. What a tragedy this is and the topic should be discussed more. This is a totally different topic than the one in Evenings out please note Mods

There is a facebook page and an online petition re closure of WMC'S please sign on or join. There are very few venues in Sheffield where groups trios ,duos and solo singers are free to watch.Although I agree that these clubs are more used by the (shall we say)more mature people they are also a great starting and learning places for entertainers.

Clubs also play great traditional games in leagues like dominoes, crib, cribbage ,whist and darts.I feel it's a tragedy that pool is played in preference to some of these games. We often have younger members watching these games and scratching their heads in amazement at 15-2 and 8s a spree!!

I would like to know whether their days are numbered as community venues or do they need funding to ensure their future in today's society
