  1. Stussonicos Is it True that Richard Cadden from Bad company walks around at something like 75kg and Andy Howson walks around at say 68kg? Richard fights at 63.5kg and Andy at 55kg I believe. Clobo If you havent even worked out what weight division youre going to be in then perhaps youre rushing to fight? Just a thought. Every trainer should know their fighters weights in KG. None of this "oh i think hes about 12 stone" that simply will not do from a management and promoters point of view. Any decent promoter will want to be specific with weight and experience.
  2. Razor Adam is only a young lad and cant handle these late nights
  3. Hi Clobo and Stu Yes the bouts are matched up on weight. There are some promoters who do open tournaments and sometimes the weight divisions are very very suspect. Example of the different kind of tournaments. The WAKO Amateurs for Full contact Dont forget that the WAKO's for full contact are a decent level even though some divisions (like -51 or 54) will have like 2 or 3 in a division while the 67/71/75 divisions have loads of competitors. MENS:-51/54/57/60/63.5/67/71/75/81/86/91/91+ (same as the old amateur boxing weight divisions) WOMENS : -51/54/60/67/67+ (I cant remember but it is something like that) AFK Promotions (same as the ones used by the university tournaments) MENS : -64/71/79/86/86+ LADIES : -57/63/63+ Other open tournaments: MENS : -65/75/85/85+ LADIES: OPENWEIGHT ( yes stupid i know) Now prearranged bouts are always matched give or take a few kilos. " Only a complete fool breaks the 3kg rule" Really though a bout is not a fair match unless there is only a give or take of say 2kg. If its a 4kg difference then I call that either bad management or a stitch up on the promoters part.
  4. Hi Simon How are the rigs treating you? Im Free Tuesday morning for definite. Possibly also Thursday morning. Sarahbabe was at the social too you know so where Sunnysingh, Wayne Betts , Fireman Mick, Razor Adam, Dean and all the rest. As for the website, well ill have to get my mate freddy to sort that out. Great night out. You coming to Pain and Glory at the NEC in birmingham? I can save you a ticket if you let me know. See you soon Farhad
  5. Id say try shotokan karate as well taught by Big John Hunter he is called Shotokarate on here. Excellent martial artist ,mentally and physically a very strong person. Kind hearted and a real gentleman with excellent interpersonal skills. Also a qualified R.E Teacher in one of Barnsley's roughest schools for his sins. He also has an open minded approach to karate and martial arts in general he knows what works and what doesn't. I think the club is called Steel City Karate or something? John if youre reading this get yourself onto the forum I finally have an account!
  6. Great night out Sarahbabe xxx wasnt it? On the way back home poor old Razor Adam had very little to say.
  7. Hi Crayfish/Lobster /Dodgy Gangster with the shotgun in a violin case. How did you know it was me? I know what doing a degree is like , did one myself . Maths at Loughborough to be precise. Ironically enough we did end up fighting a lot of Loughborough university's kickboxers at my tournament. What degree are you doing mate? You missed a wicked social last night! Got in at something like 4am! The one the week before my 25th at the kurdish restaurant was good wasnt it? Speaking of the kurdish it is now under new management. Go there again sometime? Come and say hello at Cagewarriors I will be judging cageside but come and say hello all the same. Cheers Farhad
  8. Davemantis I am terribly sorry to dissapoint you but its me Farhad Ali. Freddylee is about a decade younger than myself. I was initially hoping not to get involved in foruming until my members were hassling me to get myself on here. Foruming is dead dead addictive as you all may know. However I do intend to stay firmly away from a lot of the disrespectful bickering between clubs. I like many of my kickboxing brethren do dislike the name kickboxing being bandied about left right and centre. Crayfish When are you popping down to AFK next? I found your rendition of a McDojo hillarious. Regards to all Farhad Ali
  9. You go Sunny Singh. You are well and truly the voice of reason. Just for the record Nuguyo, Sunny trains with me at AFK (http://www.sheffieldkickboxing.com), where do you train and what discipline do you practise? Damn this forum is addictive!
  10. Scott Sykes , Lovely young lad isnt he? Wayne apparently knows him from school days. He is fighting Saturday night at the Octagon if you are there? If so please introduce yourself. Paul Powers has extended his kind invitation to myself to see his place which I will do when i have a spare moment. As for yourself, just like Simon and Daz are more than welcome to pay us a visit at either one of our clubs either at Wellington street or at Hallam University. At the moment the ladies Featherweight Interuniversity Champion(fights for cambridge university) is training with us as she is home for the holidays so you will have someone to spar with if you ever choose to pop in.
  11. GULP!!! Daz, oh dear that was my fault. Some mix up with the matching up. The younger Daz was matched up against David Slater from Newcastle. David slater won that match and will be fighting Scott Sykes from Self Defense UK (trained by the illustrious Paul Powers) on cagewarriors this weekend under 3 rounds of 3 minutes of kickboxing in the cage. Will you be there? Come and say hello at the judges table. I will be there with one of the other AFK instructors. I cant be bothered with "my dad is bigger than your dad" either Life is too short for all that. Jealousy and Envy , both bad things. Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to hate, Hate leads to suffering.
  12. Perhaps you will one day see us on here at the same time. Who knows. It will all depend on what both our movements are. Freddy is a family friend but I sure as hell am not his keeper and he doesnt live with me either . A bit of a mistake? I found your accusation nothing short of insulting , I also find it totally irrelevant to this discussion. Arguing on the internet is not what I have joined the forum for so the aforementioned matter is closed as far as I am concerned. You will hereby not be receiving any further correspondence on this matter. This discussion is about kickboxing for beginners so let it continue. Peace to all mankind!
  13. These are my pet hates with martial arts: MCDOJOS !!! Ok everyone has to make a living so charge what the hell you want, its all about demand and supply (basic economics) of goods and services. But if the public demand martial arts training and tuition then for heavens sake give them a good service. Teach them techniques that are relevant to what they are training for. Give value for money, dont rip people off. Another thing people making false claims and using the name "kickboxing" willy nilly. People should stop using the kickboxing name to sell a service. The "plastic karate" also known as freestyle or semi contact or whatever the hell people choose to call it these days is having a "kickboxing " label put on it just to sell the package. This causes confusion to the public who actually do think that they are being taught kickboxing and it cheapens what the real kickboxers are going through and believe me I do know from experience what a kickboxer has to go through in training. I once had a practitioner of some form of well ,.... "martial art" who was telling me how his instructor was a "really good kickboxer" he mentioned the name and i knew the name just not as a kickboxer. Ok Rant over. Cheers for the thread it was a good one to release steam.
  14. Sunnysingh: Ash has to be careful eating too many twixes or he may never compete as a cruiserweight Sarahbabe: Hi there , see you at the social tonight. You being a good girl for me then? I have had words with Freddy, he promises to behave. He cant make it tonight due to all that travelling up from London. I think he should start putting his money where his mouth is and be more of an AFK member in real life as opposed to on the net What I did find terribly amusing was the accusations that I was Freddy . How absurd!
  15. It was an interesting tournament. That is how i met Simon and Daz in the first place. Simon beat Wayne and Daz beat this Kurdish lad. Daz fought Stephen Hawker (from AFK), Stephen dropped him with a kick to the back of the head and Simon got revenge by beating Stephen. It was a great day out I remember the whole event like it was yesterday. The start of a few friendships too. Now why cant all the kickboxing clubs get on like this? Martial arts is all about respect and comradeship. Looks like somebody forgot to tell a lot of the people who keep arguing and badmouthing on the net. I promised to keep off this forum as I had officially given up foruming (as i considered it to be unprofessional being an official). The constant prompts and all the bugging I have had to put up from everyone have lead to me joining in the fun.
  16. There is a lot of disrespectful comments directed at people and a lot of it is going round and round in circles. Pingpang I have been following your rhetoric for weeks and you are equally guilty for rubbishing other styles , let it cease now? Roweshow: Cheers for the compliment you lazy bugger. When are you going to lay off the guiness and get yourself down? Also its not the style its the fighter but suffice it to say that Kickboxing should be taught by somebody suitably qualified. I have been involved in fighting, coaching, judging, refereeing, matchmaking and ultimately promoting of the sport of kickboxing. I have noticed one thing though the instructors who have not had a "ringsport" background but have come from traditional disciplines often make very poor managers of their fighters and are the first to get "taken for a ride" rather than people who "know the game" as it were. Peace All Peace all
  17. Hi Clo_bo. Wayne trains at my club. He entered the tournament at S10 which I promoted and won his whole division convincingly. Waynes first fight was actually against your instructor Simon Marsden who is incidentally a good friend of mine. With an open minded instructor like Simon and with good management (entering the right tournaments early on) you will progress well. As for you entering the next one in May, Im the one who will referee your contest. Regards: The REF! P.S send Simon and Daz my regards
