  1. The train to Liverpool J Lennon Airport. If you book a few weeks in advance you should be able to get a return fare for between £20 - £25. Way cheaper and much less hassle than paying for fuel, airport car park fees and also having to drive.
  2. Hey up Jemson. Almost next door to Sound Control is The Font Bar, we were in last Friday. Four hand pumps with brews that were all new to us. Their keg selection is also more than interesting. Reasonable prices also. 5 minutes walk away on Grosvenor Street is, IMO, one of the best bars in Manchester with an ace juke box, The Sand Bar.This place usually has at least 6 hand pumps on with most of them being dedicated to new up and coming breweries from The Manc/Bury areas. Another superb bar less than 5 mins walk from Oxford Road Station is The Temple opposite The Palace Theatre which is set below ground level in a former public toilet, hence the name. No hand pumps here but a more than decent selection of bottles, dark and dingey with an ace juke box, Think a matchbox version of the old Limit.
  3. Driving up Ecclesall Rd the other day and noticed a chalk board outside The Banner Cross Pub advertising a beer festival being held there over the Bank Holiday. Been going to The Banner on and off for years but never known them to hold a beer fest. Looking forward to this. Hopefully they'll put on a few interesting beers.
  4. You can purchase an official guide for £3 from most of the venues. All the listings are in there. Great value.
  5. Hey up mate. Think you took us up to Newcastle for a funeral last weds. Had a chat with you about this. Should be a good day for 2 great causes. We'll be popping up at some point. Take care super BLADE !
  6. Joe 9t. I was also 8 in 1973 but not living in Sheffield. Moved here in feb 1975 and pearl st playground was deffo there then, I used to spend hours there. Not sure when it closed. Late 70's ? Can remember the Smiths clearly - very moody people - also remember making nets for the goalposts at the top of the playground just below the swings that were on the tarmac, the wooden slide and the hut at the bottom. Made the nets out of 3 old tennis nets. See Tony Tigwell regularly at sheffield Eagles matches, Still fit as a fiddle and a top fella.
  7. Poor old you! . . . . . . . Personally I'm from Sharrow. Loads of paupers houses looking over each other.
  8. An absolute joke for the fourth biggest city. A few piddling huts at the top of fargate. Last years in the peace Gardens was far superior.
  9. The folk forest this year was superb. Great setting, top music, great thornbridge beer tent etc, etc. If there is any chance of putting on Martin Stephenson & the Daintees next year you will be on to a winner. . . . . and i will thank you forever.
  10. I was also in there this afternoon and didn't get any feeling from anyone that 'this is our pub'. Really enjoyed it and think that thornbridge have done a great job on the place. loved the real coal fire and the beers were also superb.
