  1. i want to go too - anyone taking me??? ;o)
  2. no one really understands why these decisions are made, unless u r in these authorities - but im still sure its all dodgy - how come places like nottingham and leeds, smaller than sheffield - get such a variety?? i wanna go out tonight but other than driving to leeds in which case i cannot drink im resigned to going to the same places yet again in sheffield - oh well, such is life - unless of course anyone knows where i can kip down overnight lol my best mate is away on holiday so i wont have anywhere to stay - awwww
  3. I agree with you - XES isnt exactly a posh wine bar!!! BUT its the only place to go most nights, other than dumpseys ;o)
  4. Its not the people of Sheffield that stop there being a good gay nightlife, its the authorities, ie, such as licensing and police etc. Over the years generally the gay establishments have been run by one owner(s), its common knowledge, the whole scene has been monopolised basically, and when strangers have tried to get in as it were, they have been "blocked" Political - dodgy dealings, call it what you will but this has taken place over the years and appears still to do so - this is the main reason why us gay people have to "put up" with such a deplorable gay scene in whats supposed to be one of the biggest and cosmopolitan cities in the UK.
  5. Money itself and prospectors cannot bring Sheffield the gay choice it deserves to have. What Sheffield council, planners, magistrates, police and every other organisation that "governs" the city needs is a "kick up the ass" - they seem to be backward thinking instead of moving with the times Its fine making Sheffield a "mecca" for students but what about the minorities such as us gay people that get left behind not only other cities in the UK but some small towns which have a better gay choice than we have here!!! Even if money is poured into providing a decent gay scene in Sheffield happens, the question is WILL the magistrates grant a licence plus will the POLICE do something underhand to block it?? Me cynical? - no, Im a realist, Ive seen it all before.
  6. bring in a curfew for 16 yr olds and younger - say 2200 hours
  7. I agree Princess - as a gay bloke in Sheffield the "scene" is horrendous - no wonder most people sod off to leeds or manchester - something should be done!!
  8. try bates street S10 - just off springvale road - u try walking up there when ****** or getting up in more than 2nd gear
  9. shiregreen and wincobank are - how can i put it - erm, not exactly select areas !!!
  10. well i deserve a prize for admitting being the oldest ex pupil on the forum i bet!!!!!! i left Ecclesfield Comprehensive School (as it was known then) in 1974 - yes, 1974!!!!! Ecclesfield wasnt posh in them days LOL
  11. i agree in theory, but by banning smoking in all public places, such as pubs would be against our rights would it not??
  12. i agree with an earlier message by nu skills. i hope you non smokers realise that by doing this the government will be shooting themselves in the foot and ultimately the less smokers there are in the UK the more likely that taxes will increase and by a significant amount so, let us smokers be, i mean, everyone will die at some point and cancer does not choose smokers or non smokers, i know speaking from experience, my sister died only last year of cancer, she was a non smoker and a non drinker!!!
  13. this is my theory - if it helps !! The gay "scene" in Sheffield, believe it or not was much better in the 1980's than it is now!! - yes its true!!! I have 2 theories actually: 1 - the reason it is so bad for such a large city has something to do with the police and the magistrates granting licences (ie, they are very bigotted and not forward thinking) or 2 - Gay people have become much more accepted these days and maybe its the done thing not to "ghettoise" - is that a word??, a group of people Actually, if you go down West Street pubs at the weekend youll find loads of gay people mixing with straight people AND with no trouble - quite amazing really theres my theory anyway - and, by the way I am gay too (yes another one!!!)
  14. it wants knocking down, the pub is a haven for under age drinkers and junkies
