  1. Thanks for that, I've shot them an email. I'm trying to find somewhere that will not break the bank. Like a small garage some place that will do a reasonable job and keep the car looking tidy. After all it's a Princess, not a Porche
  2. Hey guys Been a few months now and I've finally sourced a some of the parts for my motor needed before I went ahead with getting work done. Two of my doors were less then fantastic. I need to get work done on my Austin Princess, the old girl went in to a garage a year or two ago and was subjected to some shoddy work. So I'd really like to find someone who has at least an interest in old cars and isn't out to rip me off and do a substandard job. As with any Leyland car, I've got rust that needs attending to, I've just been putting it off in fear of a repeat of last time. I'm not after a show room finish, just getting the car looking tidy. So if anyone can suggest some place local, I'd be really grateful.
  3. Thanks guys, well I took it to a garage behind the dentists in malin bridge. Looks like the old lad needs some TLC, as I suspected. Think in the summer I'll be doing some sanding and filling while I like for some new doors.
  4. Hey there Ive got some repair work that needs doing on my Princess. One garage has told its a big job and I want a second opinion. Needs a back panel fitting and work on the top of the A posts.
  5. Anyone else noticed an increase in damage to cars recently? Been a couple of cars on our estate damaged, anyone local might want to keep an eye on their cars.
  6. Keeps coming and going here in Wisewood, ive had to rewatch the same bit of movie twice! Will it ever end!
  7. Hey there, I wasn't sure where exactly to post this. So i apologise if this was the wrong section of the forum. I'm trying to find someone local, who can sew me a costume but not be excessively expensive. If anyone can offer suggestions or help, I'd be really grateful as I've not had much luck in my searching so far. Cheers James
  8. RootsBooster - if you look on youtube or a forum known as slatedroid. You'll find ways of fixing the market issue. I've also been looking at the Archos 10.1 and the Advent Vega. Here's my thoughts.. Vega - Is possibly the lowest priced dual core tablet on the market, with a very impressive battery life. With the Vegacomb it can be a great little tablet, however after a lot of reading. I discovered Vegacomb is not without it's issues. Such as reducing the battery life. Still not sure if this has been addressed, but it's a result of the cpu running at full throttle. There's also the issue of the wifi turning off every time the screen goes to sleep. I've read this is a hardware feature and can't be disabled through the OS like on most droid devices. Archos or Arnova - I've read nothing but rave reviews about this tablet, affordable, not too slow. It will never seen an OS update due to the restrictive single core and tiny 256MB Ram. But aside from that, it does leave a lot of the other more expensive droid tablets eating dust, when it comes to battery life. I've personally found it to be a tough call, however if funds are the big issue. Get the Arnova. The market problem can be fixed as far as i know, i have read several places that there's a work around. Plus if it's for uni/college, you wont have to worry about charging after 4-5 hrs of it being on. I hope some of that is food for thought. As i'm in the same boat, looking for a new droid tablet. I've found it to be a right game of swings and round abouts. James
  9. I know of laser cutting services in Sheffield, however the reason for my post as you will no doubt have read. Was to ask if anyone on the forum, knows of any that accept small orders.
  10. Was wondering if anyone know's a good place that will do small orders. I'm want to get some shapes cut from sheets of plastic, A4 sort of size. I've tried using a modelling knife and files and I always end up making a pigs ear of it. Someone suggested i tried lasering cutting. James
  11. Hi thanks for that I've bought a notebook which I intend to use for my thoughts ects. Hopefully it will aid me in arranging all the idea's and information stored in the old noggin. I'm going to begin writing some rough bits down at first. I think what has been holding me back thus far, is how to begin. I didn't wish to start writing the story and then loose my way after the first couple of chapters. I think the notebook will help with that. I'm going to set out a series of goal's for each stage of the story. Cheers
  12. Thanks for the replies, though I am still hoping someone will answer my original question. "go about taking an idea and put it in to words." Hearing how other people go about their writing process might give me some insight to my own. At the present moment, I think what I shall do. Is write something brief for each stage of the story and it's characters, locations and then begin writing. While I'm sure having a 40+ page plan for reference is handy for some people, I've always found the story is already written inside me. All that's needed, is for me to transfer it to paper. I do agree with what has been said regarding character reactions being an unknown. Placing them in a life or death situation, can be like watching a play unfold. For me it's all part of the fun of writing. James
  13. Hi there Thanks for the replies. In answer to some of your questions, the genre is science fiction. I've never had a real problem writing a story and keeping track of the direction of the characters. Perhaps this is because I never have more then the main plot going on or due to the fact I have never attempted anything on the scale of a novel. That was my main reason for asking other writers regarding how they go about taking an idea and put it in to words. I can understand why writing down the outline of the story is good, but writing down the characters seems a little unnecessary to me. As they are all creations of my own imagination, so all that information is stored in that dusty library I call my brain :-) I've been watching a lot of old 1940-60's sci fic and the one thing that struck me. Was the opimisim running throughout the stories. The characters might lack depth, but when I'm in the throws of an adventure. I dont really need to know if the hero had a terrible child hood. I think what stands them up, is the sheer simplicity of good verses evil. Where the hero is fighting evil because it's the right thing to do and not due to some odd event in his or her past. I guess the best example is Batman and Superman. One is driven by a traumatic childhood event, which makes him a layered, dark, moody character fighting in justice for personal reasons. Where the latter is doing it due to a set of elevated, utopian ideals. Using that old recipe, I've really felt the urge to write some sort of science adventure, cowboys in space romp. Again I'd like to thank people for replying James
  14. With such an inquiring title, I hope someone will take the bait and reply to my post. First a little background on myself. I've never written a book before, but I have written stories. First in my youth and then later, I used to run what is called a PBEM role playing game. Sort of a sci-fic, Dungeons and Dragons in space, where the game is played via email, writing the actions of your character in novel or script format and sending it out for other players/writers to respond. By replying with the actions of his or her character. So you always have a developing story which is guided by the people writing. As something of a writer, I found this to be a wonderful way to excercise the old grey matter. However over time, I've had this itch to turn my writing skills towards something more structured, like a book. But I just dont know how to begin, I have the concept of the story in my head, the characters ect. I read recently your either a planner or a writer. I've always been one to just write and see where it takes me. So I'd really like to know how others of you go about your writing..Do you just sit down and type or do you plan out Act 1, Act 2 ect? I'd be very grateful for any insight people can share Thanks James
