RichD
Another vote for Butlers here. Been going there for about 8 years, and never had a bad meal yet.
Duvell
New India Garden gets my vote, really nice food. Butlers is good, quite like Nirmals too - bit expensive mind. The ones on Eccy Road aren't bad either, went to one last week just down from the casino, not sure of the name.
Ousetunes
Butlers is good, quite like Nirmals too - bit expensive mind. I like the food in Nirmal's, only I feel uncomfortable eating with Gupta sat beside me watching my response to every spoonful of pilau rice I insert into my mouth. 'Good, huh? You should try my naan bread. I get you some'. She doesn't mention that all her recommendations will be charged to your bill. It's a relief to get out (and even then I'm looking behind me to see she isn't following me). PS - The curry house down from Nap's is Ambar. Everytime i go in drunk, i'm sure she see's me and my mates as "easy pickings" and recommends the most expensive meals to us.
Ousetunes
Duvell - I once went to Nirmal's with some friends and a Canadian millionaire. You can imagine the interest Gupta paid us, a group of 5 with big appetites (including a well dressed Canadian with a large wallet). When Mr Money enquired about what to eat she went on and on to the point that we eventually had a table full of plates with every conceivable curry you can think of. There wasn't even room for our elbows. When Mr K. (that's the man with the brass) said 'Oh, in that case we'll try all six dishes' her eyes lit up to the point where I thought it was Diwali come early. Then all 6 of us, yes, that's right, us five plus one Gupta, sat and tried to work our way through the (admittedly good) food. It's no wonder that whenever she sees me, the pound signs start flashing in her eyes and she's there bidding me 'come, you come and eat in my rest'raaant.' I do wonder if Mr K is still a millionaire - it must have cost him an absolute packet that evening (and yes, the meal was on him). This was back in 1989. Till Man
The Kashmir on Spital Hill! A bit spit and sawdust on the decor front but the best curry outside Birmingham. The number of asian taxi drivers who use it must surely be a recommendation in itself!
Bunnydog
Butlers Balti every time. Once you have been there, you will compare every other Indian meal you have with Butlers, you just cant help it. There are some decent curries to be had in a few of the restaurants mentioned, but they are on a different scale to Butlers. Everything is freshly prepared, fantastic attention to the perfect ingredients and flavours, fantastic and consistent quality. Been going there for 10 years. I lived abroad for 5 years and would always go there on my visits back to here to see family. If you havent been, GO NOW!
