Anyone work as a Sythe/Sickelsmith?

Recommended Posts

Anyone on here work as a Sythe or Sickle smith, either at one of the works at Hackenthorpe, Ridgeway or anywhere in or around Sheffield, would love to hear your experiences/stories as my family going back to the 1600s worked a Sicklesmiths and setup the Staniforth Works at Hackenthorpe back in 1740.

Served my time as an apprentice welder at Tyzack sons and Turner, Little London Works. They had a sythe shop with a father and son riveting and finishing them, can't remember the family name but the son was called Alan. Best I can do !.

There use to be a Sythe & Sickle maker at Ridgeway. Owned by the Clegg family. The son Michael went to live in Manilla and had girlie bars there. Now deceased

Would that be the Phoenix Works you're referring to? They shared the Lower Sickle Wheel at the bottom of Dyke Vale Road with the Staniforths oh Hackenthorpe
