Pre decimal money

Recommended Posts

In my childhood I remember we used Farthings, some items were priced in pennies, halfpennies & farthings.

I remember my first job on leaving school. The letter said, "You will be joining us at the rate of sevenpence farthing an hour, for 44 hours"

(F.H. Wheelers - Apprentice electrician)

Was the company called Foster Wheeler then or did that come later? I used to bump into your guys often on sites, in fact they used to come into Hadfields on Vulcan Road a lot when I was an apprentice there in the 60's.

Were Wheeler's the main electrical contractors for the E.S.C's Tinsley Park (Ponderosa) when under construction 1961-63?. Mowlem's being the main building contactor.

Just saw this now.

I left for Canada in 1960, so I wouldn't know. Wheelers were the electrical prime contractors for a lot of the steel mills. Steel Peaches, Firth Vickers, Hadfields, Wards, Sammy Foxes.
