siwid   12 #13 Posted December 16, 2013 If you want to give meditation a go try this, it's 20 mins long and easy to follow. Meditated myself for 10 years, been on a few retreats and use this most mornings as a peaceful way of starting the day.   If you want some positive talks this guy speaks a lot of sense. He studied theoretical physics at cambridge and then become a buddhist monk. Been meditating for 40 years plus and seems to know a thing or two!  http://www.dhammaloka.org.au/downloads/itemlist/category/18-ajahn-brahmavamso.html  As others have said there's lots of ways to relieve stress without spending money or finding faith.  Good luck to you
 Share this content via...
Eclaire   10 #14 Posted December 16, 2013 Thanks for all the advice here... Especially to be cautious about some twaddle out there that you have to pay for. I'm going to give the You Tube link a try later. Thanks for helping.
 Share this content via...

anywebsite   10 #16 Posted December 17, 2013 'It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta' That sounds like complete pseudo-science to me and shouldn't be used to advise anyone.  I was unable to find any recognised scientific research references.  Wikipedia lists a few, there has been research done, but it seems very inconclusive. It's hard to measure accurately in humans - you need electrodes implanted in your brain. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theta_rhythm
 Share this content via...

After Theta you progress into the Delta stage of deep sleep.  You simply can't sleep without Delta and Theta brainwave states. Draggletail   63 #19 Posted December 17, 2013 Yep, and that's the veneer of science to cover the pseudo-science beneath. Not sure what you mean about the near sleep state of the Theta brainwave and the sleep state of Delta being a 'veneer of science'  It's a scientific fact that people are in the brainwave state of Beta in normal everyday activity (i.e getting on with the business of life) and in Alpha when relaxing or daydreaming, in Theta when very deeply relaxed or nearing sleep and in Delta when asleep.  Being in any of these brainwave states is perfectly normal and unavoidable, and causes no harm. RootsBooster   24 #20 Posted December 17, 2013 Theta is a brainwave state in the frequency of 4-7.5hz and I'm thinking this is the sort of area the OP is interested in?   Source: http://www.finerminds.com/mind-power/brain-waves/  Please note - I am not necessarily endorsing the 'paid for' services of finerminds.com but trying to address the needs outlined by the OP!  "It is said that a sense of deep spiritual connection and unity with the universe can be experienced at Theta"  It is said by who?!!  I'm always inclined to ignore such articles when they resort to "It is said that.." as some some kind of confirmation that they are correct.  Especially from sites like that. tomlynam   10 #22 Posted March 12, 2015 Hi Eclaire,  brain waves and their associated states are fascinating. Definitely helps to have some context and a constructive framework if you are aiming for a particular outcome from these states as opposed to pure relaxation. Most hypnotherapists take an interest as its a fundamental part of their practise.  There is quite a bit of related info on my website blog below.  Tom. broady   0 #23 Posted September 28, 2021 If you're struggling to find someone locally you could put a shout out on a local Facebook group to see if anyone can give a recommendation.  Alternatively, there are many places that offer it online:  https://www.thetahealing.com/  https://lifewithflow.com/en/private-sessions/  https://adifferentdrummer.com.au/wellness-centre/theta-healing  Good luck!
