Definitely go for Quartz - we got the black quartz with the sparkly bits in (supplied by J Rotherham's). Cost almost ten times what laminate would have cost (was around £3,000 including fitting, but there was quite a lot of worktop needed as well as cut outs for hob, sink etc) but looks absolutely amazing, is really easy to clean and care for and will last forever.

I got a granite worktop from K's memorials on City Road for an incredible £300 - even less than laminate.
