Fareast   10 #1 Posted July 21, 2011 In ' The Star ' it says that Sheffield police will oppose the proposed Jamaica Independence Day celebrations because at a similar event [ in April ? ] 3 people were stabbed in the midst of all the frivolity and cavorting.  Well, Jamaica [ and particularly Kingston ] does have a long tradition of Yardie Gangs stabbing and shooting each other----apart from individual, ' freelance ' acts of violence. So, the celebrations in Sheffield could be looked on as reflecting Jamaica 's culture. [ Rather like young Brits celebrating St. George 's Day with a few pints and some punch-ups to follow ]. None of it should be a surprise in this day and age !  The other point is, if those who wish to celebrate can 't celebrate legally, they are quite likely to organise something illegal somewhere. Then, it will be impossible for the police to keep their eye on things-----even if they wish to do so.
 Share this content via...

woodmally   10 #3 Posted July 21, 2011 So because 3 people were stabbed they should stop. Ridiculous! Why shouldn't people celebrate it. Any celebration is good to promote a good atmosphere. People have been stabbed and killed at a football match and yet football still continues
 Share this content via...
