bladelass22 Â Â 10 #2 Posted November 8, 2010 Hiya, I think u need to ring the Registry Office, not sure of the number, but if u ring the council switch board im sure they will put u through, me n my partner had to do the same thing. Â Other than that, if the adoption is not on the birth certificate, the town hall should tell u of a place to ring, it tells u all about the adoption x
 Share this content via...

shortcrust   10 #8 Posted November 8, 2010 (edited) I think you can do it all through the council. They have a great team! Contact them here:  http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/safe--sound/adoption/adoptionsupport/adoptionsupportcontact  I'm adopted myself and they were able to provide me with lots of information, including my birth name, mother's name etc. They basically take care of everything for you.  Also check out this link:  http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Governmentcitizensandrights/Registeringlifeevents/Birthandadoptionrecords/Adoptionrecords/DG_175567  Good luck!   EDIT: Just having a look at the links, I remember now that I HAD to go through the council because I was adopted before 1975...  "To access your adoption records, if you were adopted before 1975, you need to attend a meeting with an adoption advisor. If you were adopted after 1975, you may request a meeting or receive the information directly. Where applicable, an adoption advisor will contact you to arrange the meeting."
