JohnVlad1 Â Â 10 #75 Posted March 5, 2010 Its been said loads of times but Sheffield does feel like a big village at times definitely doesn't feel like one of the biggest cities in the country (which it is). That's good in terms of friendly people and relatively low crime but I find it can also be irritating. I grew up in sheffield but have spent the past 15 years living around the country and now abroad and I love going home as often as I can. Â The trouble with Sheffield's 'big village' feel is that it is very inward looking place at times and often overlooked in favour of neighbouring leeds or manchester. Whilst that's good in that there's a great sense of community on the whole and whilst town is full of all the usual chains there is an independent spirit which rival big cities lack. Â I spent 8 years in Leeds and that is definitely the commercial centre of Yorkshire but its a faceless place with very little character. As others have said a good place for job opportunities but not a great place to live. You find most people who work in Leeds commute in from surrounding towns and cities. Â I expect I'll move back to Sheffield one day but it frustrates me to watch as Sheffield could do so much better for itself but always seems to be struggling along. This is far from the first time that the centre of Sheffield has become very run down - in the late 80s and early 90s it was very bleak - so why does the city always land back in the same mess? Â Thank you, your comment is interesting
 Share this content via...
