jubey   10 #14 Posted March 28, 2016 Do either of you know the name of George's wife and roughly what year they were born? Moira.  Hi Moira, Have you seen this death information? Willford Martha aged 30 Died Hill Top Buried 30-4-1874 Wife of William George Willford Also interred in this grave Samuel Foster aged 60 Mary Foster aged 72 Could these be Martha's parents?  In 1848 William and, Martha Willford had a son called George William Born 31-8-48 Up to date, this is the only George William Willford birth that I have seen, also, any woman's name connected to a George William Willford.  Cannot find a wedding for these two anywhere, this doesn't mean that they didn't marry, but, it's a possibility, having said this, can't see a reason not to.  Cannot find them on the 1851 census.  Jubey  ---------- Post added 28-03-2016 at 18:15 ----------  Do either of you know the name of George's wife and roughly what year they were born? Moira.  Sorry Moira, I do have marriage details for George William, and, a Martha Foster. WillfordsOTW   10 #16 Posted March 28, 2016 There appears to be much information on the table now, thank you for that Moira and Jubey.  To work out what is what two pieces of information have come to me from the Project Coordinator Vicki Theaker who I contacted from the Sheffield Indexers website that Jubey put me on to.  I can tell you now that this information contains the George William Willford of my search:  this is the info, perhaps we can work through it and your info together, as there is so much to work through now.  thanks   Births Mar 1841 Willford George William  Glanford Brigg 14 358    Marriages Sep 1866  FOSTER Martha Sheffield 9c589  Willford George W Sheffield 9c589     Births Sep 1867  Willford  Annie    Sheffield  9c  449    1871 Census 27 Hill Top (Under Wilford)  George 29 b Barton on Humber  Martha 27  Annie 3   WILLFORD, Martha (wi, died on ?, at the age of 30). I've talked to my grandad and hope he and my mother will visit there in a week or so.  To Moira,  The discovery that Emma was George's wife, has not blown this as wide open as I had hoped.  I think these things you have put is what will uncover so much yet to come.  I had previously while thinking of a different George Willford, thought he may have married twice.  Clearly that is the case.  I have then two great great grandmothers of a way.  This info is what to work on then:  1881 - 54 Leigh St, Sheffield, Attercliffe cum Darnall. George Wilford, boarder, Wdr, 38yrs, Engine fitter, born Barton on Humber. Annie Wilford, boarder, 12yrs, Scholar, born Brightside, Yks. I know George Willford's company was at one point Willford & Co, there are even pictures of his staff etc online )
 Share this content via...

WillfordsOTW   10 #18 Posted April 3, 2016 (edited) With Ashlie having used this site as recent as yesterday afternoon, not to have a response on this thread yet, is surprising.  Is there anyone who could contact Ashlie?  ---------- Post added 03-04-2016 at 13:07 ----------  moving on then  Here's the thing.  What are the chances that my great great grandfather George William Willford, father of Annie Willford,  the George who we've established was born in born Barton on Humber in 1843  is not the same George William Willford who was born in Barton on Humber in circa 1837?  The person I was thinking was most likely to be my ancestor.  https://www.myheritage.com/names/cecil_willford  That's George William Willford & Sarah Willford, children: William E. Willford, Cecil Willford, Alice Hackett (born Willford), John H Willford, Reginald Willford, Letitia Willford etc  Is it then possible that the two George William Willfords, both born in Barton on Humber, one on circa 1837 and one in 1843, are in fact the same person?  That George William Willford married three times in life? With no children by his last wife, Emma Willford, one child Annie Willford, by his second wife Martha? and many children by his first wife Sarah Willford?  Support and thoughts, ideas etc on this welcome.  thank you Edited April 3, 2016 by WillfordsOTW
 Share this content via...
Moirahyde   10 #19 Posted April 3, 2016 I have checked the marriage between George and Emma in 1902. He gives his fathers name as JAMES.  George William Wilford, bap 15 March, 1841, St Mary, Barton on Humber. Parents: James and Margaret. (Family Search).  This seems to be the family of the George we have been following: 1861 census - 1 Pottery, Barton on humber, Parish of St. Mary. Margaret Wilford, Wid, 42yrs, Pot maker (Employ 1 man 1boy) born Howden Dyke, Yks. George W. Wilford, son, 20yrs, Engine fitter (ap), born Barton, Lincs. James Wilford, son, 17yrs, Blacksmith, (ap), borns Barton, Lincs.  1851 census - Pottery Lane, Barton on Humber. James Willford, head, mar, 37yrs, Rope & earthenware maker, born Barton on Humber. Margaret Willford, wife, 35yrs, born Barton on Humber. Mary Ann Willford, dau, 11yrs, born Barton on Hiumber. GEORGE Willford, son, 10yrs, born Barton on Humber. James Willford, son, 7yrs, born Barton on Humber. Margaret Willford, dau, 7 months, born Barton on Humber. Martha Willford, sister, 28yrs, born Barton on hUMBER.  1841 census - Newport, Barton on Humber. James Willford, 25yrs, Rope/m, Y. Margaret Willford, 20yrs, Y. Mary Willford, 2yrs, Y. GEORGE Willford, 3 months, Y.  The other George Willford I found in Barton on Humber born 1836/7 is the son of Samuel and Mary.  Moira. WillfordsOTW   10 #20 Posted April 10, 2016 This thread is the gift that keeps on giving, particularly you Moira.  It's still a shame no response from Ashlie, who's thread this technically is and who clearly uses this site in the present.  Perhaps Ashlie wishes to wait to see if this plays out, as to whether we are in fact related or not.  Well whatever the case, we have established that the George I'm searching for is the George who was married to Emma.  Okay Moira, thanks to your latest research on this, we can say once and for all that the other  George Willford born in Barton on Humber in 1836/7, the son of Samuel and Mary  is not the George of this search.  thank you Moira for clearing that up. WillfordsOTW   10 #22 Posted June 11, 2016 okay, thought would try to have a go once more, though more than pretty tired at present. Hopefully my tired maths with dates etc makes sense.   Using Moira's research we have this:  George William Wilford, bap 15 March, 1841, St Mary, Barton on Humber.  Father: James Willford, birth c. 1814 in Barton on Humber. Mother: Magaret Willford, birth c. 1819 in Howden Dyke, Yks. Brother: James Willford, birth c. 1844 in Barton, Lincs. Sister: Mary Willford, birth c. 1839 First Wife: Last Wife: Emma (married 1902)   1851 George William Wilford  Lived at: Pottery Lane, Barton on Humber.   Lived with:  Father: James Willford Mother: Margaret Willford Sister: Mary Ann Willford. Brother: James Willford. Sister: Margaret Willford, birth c.1851 Aunt: Martha Willford, birth c. 1823   1861 George William Wilford, 20yrs, Engine fitter  Lived at: 1 Pottery, Barton on humber, Parish of St. Mary  Lived with:  Mother: Margaret, Widow, 42yrs, Pot maker (Employ 1 man 1boy) Brother: James Wilford, 17yrs, Blacksmith.    The search then is:  George William Wilford, bap 15 March, 1841, St Mary, Barton on Humber.  Brother: James Willford, birth c. 1844 in Barton, Lincs. Sister: Mary Ann Willford, birth c. 1839 Sister: Margaret Willford, birth c.1851  Aunt: Martha Willford, birth c. 1823  Perhaps we can uncover children of George's siblings, or of his cousins.  thanks
 Share this content via...
