They aren't really doing anything wrong by that, its just the way things are. Everybody's after buying cheap and making as much as they can. The only way to combat it is to get up at stupid o clock and beat them to it.

It may not be illegal, but it is immoral to do what they are doing.

I really don't see why it is immoral? I can see that it might be irritating that someone else is making a profit on an item you have let go for less, but the fact that you see it for sale means that no one has yet paid their increased price. They may have to hold on to it for several weeks before they get their price for it, carrying it back and forth.

If you have sold an item at a price you are happy about, then why is it immoral for someone else to try to resell it for more?

I buy at boot sales and resell at my antiques unit, is that immoral too, or is it only immoral to sell it on quickly at the same boot sale? I use my knowledge (gained by studying) to pick up items that the owner who hasn't done any research or bothered studying the market is willing to let go for less than their market value. I pay the price they ask, they are happy. I am happy because I know that by researching the item and finding the correct place to market it, I can make a profit. I am also willing to hold on to items for up to a few years in order for them to sell at the increased price. Most people who sell at boot sales are just wanting stuff out of their way. I sometimes pick up items from the other antique units, I do try not to put them in the same antiques centre, as it would feel rude, and it is maybe rude of the dealers at car boot sales who put items bought that day on their stall, but immoral sounds a little harsh to me.

:help: please!

I've just briefly updated the first post. Can anyone please let me know if there are any inaccuracies or updates so I can improve on the info there? I haven't got the time to phone each organizer so rely on SF members to keep me updated.

Many thanks to all those who have posted so far!

Well said HennyPenny. I wouldn't be prepared to get up at the crack of dawn, struggle with other "dealers" to ransack a new booters stock, and then put what I buy on resale to make a few quid. So don't blame them for their entrepreneurism - blame me for my laziness, or lack of enthusiasm!

Know your subject and you can pick up real baragains at most local boots. I got a specialist atlas for £1 which I could have sold on eBay for at least £20 - but I bought it for myself.

Having said that, I do begin to despair when I see would be traders at Marsh Lane or Twin Oaks with the same crap on offer from the same wholesalers - pretending to be genuine car booters. Anyone for out of date car manuals?

I have just spoken to Peak Promotions who run Troway (aka Marsh Lane), they have told me of the new location.

For ease of use I have listed a map found here

Basically get onto the B6056 it is in the field opposite where it used to be held.

I will be there Sunday morning selling electrical accessories.

See you there

Tony

You are quite right see here

No excuses then

Don’t forget to set your clocks back by one hour on Sunday 25th October 2009 and gain an extra hour for that extended lie-in

No excuses

Tony
